I have a bad short circuit /overload relay in one of my MEP-802A
I have pulled it and it was full of water (shocking, lol). I have dried it all out, but the two 10uf capicators are rusted and need replacing.
I have the replacement capacitors, but cannot get the board removed from the metal...
forklift in, gen sets removed from trailer. Pretty sure the issue with the low fuel is someone had cut the connectors off and now the 4 wires between the Fuel Pump Float Switch and the fuel float module are crimped togethor. unfortuntally i dont know which wires are which coming off the float...
if you follow the Line leads out of CB3, (a black and white wire) they should be hooked up to TB5 terminals 4 and 6; check for 120v across those terminals.
If you have 120v across those terminals, and cannot reset the side breaker on CB3, its fried. New ones are $25 ish on the popular auction site
Replaced - V5 - Have continuity across it (testing wires)
Replaced CB3 - continuity through
Swapped over unknown Short circuit relay from other non-working gen set
Will not turn over now
Shows low fuel fault - reset it over and over
No more short circuit or overload fault (yay?)
Fuel pumps run...
took delivery of varistors, diodes, and a few new capacitors im going to use to try and fix one of the short circuit relays with.
I have consolidated the "good"(dried and cleaned) short circuit relay to the known runner, and am planning on installing the replacement varistor tonight...
ok, stole the short circuit relay from generator set 2 - looked better inside (though still full of water)
Also installed a new GFCI that came in...
V5 Veristor is broken, so need to order a few of them, figure ill get some other needed parts with the order from Mouser for the V68MA3B...
CB3 is bad for sure. we have 120v at the terminals. replacement on the way
On to the next big hurdle... The Short Circuit Overload Relay was full of water... pulled it apart, and whoosh agua... :(
NSN # 5945-01-366-2726 Part# 19230
ebay has two... unknown working order... blah...
The one i was working on, now runs, and runs STRONG! Had to play replace a few connectors on the fuel pump, and fixed the relay.
Now i am getting a short circuit/ overload light (depending on how the MEP feels) - i assuming its the far left relay in the electronics - i will dissassemble it...
I had my Hmmwv out during Harvey in houston, and Katy moving poeple around. No pictures... Was a good time, but HMMWV was too small for most areas near us that were flooded over 6 feet
between the 2 sets i was able to build 1 K2 relay that functions - lots of sanidng and cleaning -
Now the dead start switch will crank over the unit...(wahoo... progress) this works consistently.
master switch puts out voltage to terminal 3 in run and prime, and 7 for crank.
Will only...
Both of these generators had the Gauge panel covers missing (if anyone has a lead on them, im interested), so with coming out of texas have had their share of water in them. Fortunately both have the exhaust flaps, and yes the one with the bad starter (or solenoid) turns over with breaker bar...
Thanks guys... Responses below in red
DC breakers have continuity, and both fuses are good.
Correction: one will crank over when you jump the starter solenoid, the other one will not... both have bad crank relays(bench tested)
