    Heat Pump Soft Start

Nice! That is a huge reduction.

    802a

Not being snarky here, but if you have to ask, you'd be better off fixing the existing system or paying someone to retrofit it for you. A Mebay DC30D generic generator controller would get you nearly all the funtionality of the MEP-802a panel plus autostart if it was hard wired for a single...

Who has reused a MEP generator engine for other equipement?

Any of you reuse your engines for log splitters, irrigation pumps, snow blowers, etc.? We were splitting wood this fall and an older gentleman showed up with a Continental Y69 4cyl powered log splitter. That thing was so much quieter and nicer than the other 3600 rpm box store splitters. It...

Not quite a generator, but my 803 is part of it soon...

Nice setup! With that much solar, I won't even need the grid. How many Kwh is your battery bank? LFP batteries?

MEP 802/803A QUAD winding & voltage regulator A1 protection

That's pretty close, my understanding was the voltage rating of the diodes in the rectifier bridge was too low and quad winding can burn them out under certain conditions. The fuse protects the quad winding if the regulator fails, but Kurts MOV mod clamps voltage transients from the quad...

MEP803A glow plug system questions - intake heaters

    Totally normal.

MEP803A glow plug system questions - intake heaters

I'm feeling that. Started with one 802a, then bought a second because 2-is-1. Then thought having a 10k would be better for the shop, then needed a second one of those. Then got the spares running and needed a third for parts for the first two. Now I'm buying trailers, aux tanks, extra load...

MEP803A glow plug system questions - intake heaters

100% Getting dead units running has turned into garage-therapy for me.

MEP803A glow plug system questions - intake heaters

Unfortunately that area is common for rodent damage.

MEP803A glow plug system questions - intake heaters

The schematics can be downloaded in the TMs section here. Here is a screenshot of the relay in question, K18 Here are some pictures of a partially disassembled machine I have. This can be accessed by removing the control panel side top cover. The relay is circled in red.

    Pop tester for Onan injectors

Likely all made in the same Chinese factory. I tried to find one with good reviews, since performance is hit or miss. You definitely should take the tester apart and clean it first before hooking up a good injector.

    Pop tester for Onan injectors

I bought this one from Amazon and it worked well. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072F2JDJV?ref_=ppx_hzsearch_conn_dt_b_fed_asin_title_2 Good for teaching kids about how diesel works too.

    MEP803A House Wiring

I would 2nd this approach. There is a small square panel, opposite the hole where the output wires exit the enclosure, that can be used to mount an additional outlet.

    MEP-802a/803a skid bolt pattern

Well that is interesting, the TM shows 40.9 for the 803 and 29.25 for the 802, however it is obvious they both have the same bolt pattern. I put a tape on a couple of units and keep coming up with a numer between 29.13 and 29.25"

    MEP-802a/803a skid bolt pattern

I've searched through the TMs for the 802a/803a and the TMs for the Schutt LTT trailers, but can't seem to find a technical drawings that shows the dimensions of the bolt pattern on the skid that holds it down to the trailer. I've tried measuring it, but haven't been 100% successful, always...

    Opinions on MEP-831A

That's a real clean setup. Is your friend a HAM and/or a EE?

    802a/803a quick cold weather question

-50°F is dang cold. Thanks for the quick technical data. I have a diesel air heater to preheat generators now if it gets too cold. I'm sitting inside with this arctic blast, so I have extra time to think through my plans.

    802a/803a quick cold weather question

For those units with diesel coolant heaters for extreme cold weather operation, what ambient temperature do you start using supplemental pre-heating?

    MEP 802 w trailer. What’s it worth ?

Biggest thing is missing parts. Many units have been decommissioned because maintenance removed a switch or pump. The other common reason for decommissioning lately is fuel leaks from the return lines or the injection pump feed lines. Both of these are easy fixes and no reason to avoid a...

    Mep 803 Auxiliary fuel question

I've foreseen a similar need when feeding the generator with a few extra gallons from a Jerry can. I've considered putting a remote AUX kill plug on the back near the aux input that connects to a remote float switch. Not a huge technical lift.
