$10 seat recover project

Went to the local fabric store to seek out a suitable fabric to recover my trashed Deuce seats. I lucked out and found 3 yards of nice green vinyl on the 50% off remnants table. My wife and I spent the afternoon recovering the seats . before and after pics.

I used material from a GI shelter half to cover my seats. Looks good, proper color and all. Like everything else, my deuce will always be a work in process so I do expect to have to recover them in the future, and who knows what I will find next time.

did the seat back come off easily? i see drawstrings for the bottoms but havent looked into the back yet. thanks for posting these

Wasn't too bad, Just a few screws on the drivers seat and four nuts to hold the seat frame in place.

Nice job. How did you attach the new material attached to the metal seat back?
I re-covered mine recently with new canvas from the local tent and awning company; had to wash it several times with plain warm water to remove the oils.

Gimp, I could use a drivers spring seat bottom I need the underside brakets also(bottom tilt).

Haha, the drivers bottom is all I don't have. Will keep a seat frame for ya. Just remembered, I forgot to bring the 6"ducts for your heater to Haspin. Still sitting in the shed.

I just recovered mine this weekend as well. Found some nice dark olive drab outdoor fabric at Joann's on the super clearance shelf. The padding in the bench seat was shot so I put new 4 inch foam in for the back rest and wrapped 3 layers of a foam matress pad over the springs in the bench seat, still no where close to a lazy boy recliner, but alot more comfortable.

I was able to staple everything except for the drivers metal back. I ended up hot gluing the crap out of it. Hopefully she'll hold. If not I was thinking of pulling the foam out of the metal back, cutting some luan to fit, reattach foam to luan, attach fabric then attach covered assemble back to the metal seat back via screws.

Will post pictures tonight when I get in.

I had to add a piece of luan to the passenger side seat back to have something to staple the vinyl into. I used Gorilla tape on the drivers seat back and staples into the edges of the plywood back that is wrapped in metal.

It was definately a time consuming project , but well worth it.

What is the best way to remove pass. seat back from frame?

Jeez, that's gonna smell. There is no odour like an old 1/2 shelter.

Hobby Lobby had several choices of canvas when I looked there. Tans and greens. Walmart had 1 choice of tan, and I am sure a larger store like JoAnn fabrics will even have camo colors in canvas. I have some of the MARPAT digital camo that is a thick canvas I got from there.

Keep looking, you'll find some, or you could order online. I hear you can find 600 denier nylon online, but it will cost you.
