I found a cool site and couldn't resist posting the pics. The 10 ton is without a doubt my favorite military vehicle of all time. I'd kill for a 10 ton, but would probably prefer the M125 cargo over the 123 tractor.

Speaking of Jumbo, it's a site to behold. My good friend Bruce Kubu just sold that truck last year. Bruce is also the guy that I bought my m275A2 tractor from. When I parked my tractor behind Jumbo it was a scary sight! If you ever look close at the pics, there's ladder rungs on the rear mudflaps for getting into the bed. The huge LeRoi V-8 gasser sounds like no other engine. I'm not sure where Jumbo is now but if you look up the word "Mammoth" in the dictionary, a pic of Jumbo might just be there. Bruce offered to let me drive Jumbo and I probably should have but I couldn't afford to replace anything had it broke. The steering box on Jumbo is a big as a small block chevy!

in reading the restoration article in MVM by Tony Roca, it sounds like a more manageable beasst than you think. Says it has a 12 foot smaller turning radius than a 5 ton, despite being a tad longer. Said it steers easy and stops easy as well, getting it going is a tough task though! So is that link to Jumbo there outdated, as in its no longer for sale from him? $16k, man, that's a tempting price. Gotta come up with that fast!

OK, the pintle on the side cab be used in place of the hitch in the back for moving the big guns. The link is outdated. Bruce sold the truck to Dave Newman at Eastern Equipment in Philly. Don't know what Dave did with the truck. The truck is manageable but just doesn't fit most streets. It's around 9.5 ft wide. It's got the way cool 45,000# winch with level wind like on the back of the wreckers except it's chain drive. I've not checked Newman's site to see if Jumbo is still there.

that pintle is also in the restoration pics of Jumbo before it was about to be scrapped. I could be wrong, but is it just the storage for the pintle (they are quite large and awkward), since normally the M125 cargos were equipped with artillery hauling towing blocks that could be swapped off for the pintle

EDIT: dang, Kenny beat me to it! So at least my guess was right <img src="emoticons/icon_smile_approve.gif" alt="Approve">

I had the opportunity to buy a beautiful 10 ton tractor that was just cherry, except for the fan belt that broke, wrapped around the fan blade bending it which tore up the radiator. Included with it was the parts to fix it, as well as a five ton wrecker bed complete. The guy was dying and needed to get rid of it. He told me I could have it for $5,000. I really couldn't afford it at the time. He kept calling and dropping the price, it finally got down to $3,500. The day I came up with the $3,500 I saw it rolling away on a lowboy.......

dang! <img src="emoticons/icon_smilie_bitchin.gif" alt="Bitchin">

sweet deal that would have been

so I take it then swapping on a cargo bed would be pretty straightforward? I read they used the 5 ton cab and are only two inches longer in cargo version. I assume the 10 ton cargo bed was beefier, but would anybody really know the difference between a 5 and 10 ton?
