There is no doubt that the 800 series tractors are workhorses.
Years ago at Fort Benning we loaded a narrow guage box car (had been used as a line shack in a motor pool) onto a 35 foot lowbow and hauled it to DRMO.
It was an old boxcar the had the metal frame on the outside.
When the crane picked it up the tires on it bulged way out.....he could not swing it so I backed the lowboy under it. The guy running the crane said the 5 ton would never pull it.
I told him "Don't worry about the mule being blind....just load the wagon."
I knew we were heavy because I never got out of low range.
I wasn't worried about acceleration.....stopping was on my mind.
We had an MP escort all the way to DRMO.
When we crossed the scales at DRMO the weight ticket said 102,000 pounds......the LT that was in charge of the operation like to have chit.
