The 6 volt solenoid on my 53 willys is shot. I have a 12 volt solenoid that looks identical, but it says 12v on it. The 6v solenoid has no markings. Would it be safe to use the 12v solenoid on the 6v system? The solenoid was mounted to the firewall.

Is it for the starter? It would probably be okay, but there is a good chance it won't work unless you provide 12v to the signal terminal. Are there any other markings or numbers on it?

Do a simple web search for 6v solenoids and all kinds of them show up. They're also available from most tractor supply houses.
