1953 m35a2 help

i just got a 1953 m211 and iam really looking foward to fixing it it needs alot of work. it has been sitting in someones back yard for 13 years and it does not run there is so much too do i need to know where to start this is my first military truck i would appreciate the help thanks .

Start by having it towed home. Next take many pictures and post them here. 3rd closely inspect the truck for missing parts. I should have prefaced all this by saying that you need to download and digest some of the tech manuals. Start out with TM 9-2320-361-10 and TM 9-2320-361-20

Please don't take this the wrong way . If you've already got it home and don't know if it's a gasser or not you need to really follow Kenny's (recovery4X4) advice. Read the TMs untill you understand them and what you don't understand feel free and ask here. We will help you out. Just don't get too excited and fire her up and head down the road without knowing about the truck .

How did you come about getting the truck? Sounds like a fun project - you will surely get loads of info from this site. Be sure and keep us posted on the progress.

If it is truly an M35A2, then it is not a gasser. The A2 status denotes that the truck is mulitfuel powered.

Thanks for moving the pics As i was noting before, def a m211 or 135 but i can't recall the difference right now. Either way its a GMC and a straight 6 gasser.

You have a lot of work ahead of you, but it sure is a nice start. Good luck, and I'll chime in with the others, do your homework with the TM's, and this board is real helpful. Constantly take progression pictures of your project. Again, Good Luck!

hey thanks alot i wasnt sure the guy i got it from wasnt very helpful monday iam gonna drain the oil and atart taking the engine apart i wish i could have got it with a multi fuel engine but i got it for free so i cant complain

I think this is what it should look like when complete.
Do a complete project plan before you start, research how much each part you need will cost and add them up. Then evaluate the project, a free truck could cost you ten grand.
This is free advice and that may be all it is worth, but I have done alot of restorations.

Looks like its worth the pricetag. I KNOW there was a truck just like that in the rear section of jacks autoparts in billerica (sp) Was all there last time i was through there, you might want to swing by and see if you can't grab the rad, grill ect. Not sure if they even know its back there, all the way back on the right hand side of the yard as you face into the yard from the entrance. I need to make a run down there in the next week or so and will confirm or deny its still there if you haven't yet been there.
