1983 vs 1984-86

Is there difference in the 1983 or the 1984-86 I always hear about the group of 1984-86 but never anything about 1983?

I believe all of the 83s are actually 84s. You don't hear much about the 87s either. GL tried to give me an SF97 for an 83 M1009 because it was manufactured in late 83. The VIN did decode as an 84.

Yep. Even the wiring connectors remained the same while the civillian stuff changed in 85. There may be some different stuff on the 87s though.

There are very minor differences in early and late M1009s. !986s have different front seat mounts with a different bolt pattern on the floor. I found a pair of seats just like a 1986 in a 1988 civi blazer. There is also an early and late front axle lock outs called out in the TM as before or after a certain serial number.

There might be a few other minor difference, but basically they are all practically the same.
