Lots of questions.
First is who did the restoration and what did they actually do?

Can't tell much by the pictures but . I'd say crawl under it and tap on the frame rails. look listen for rust.
Fresh paint looks nice also hides stuff.
Restored to some that would mean restored to like it came originally equipped. and turn key don't really mean much .

6.2 6.5 ? 3l80, 4l80 trans.

is it currently licensed for the street.

Also keep in mind mileage doesn't mean much with military vehicles as they change gauges regularly if there is a problem with them . The military doesn't care about miles being correct.

If I were about to spend $18000 I would spend $400 more to fly there and look at it first.

I don't gamble at casinos either.

First post says private sale, the rest say dealer.

The link clearly is a dealer with dealer fees.

I believe you were the one looking at my M998. My opinion might not weigh much here but Bullet Motorsports is deff a dealership, you can view them online with multiple military trucks.

Having a Florida title and passing State inspections is different then actually having a license plate and currently registered to drive on the street.
Have you spent anytime reading some of the threads on this forum regarding buying a HMMWV . You may want to read through the sticky section.
You may also want to check with your states DMV and make sure you can get it registered in your state before you spend the money. I agree with Doghead go look at it or have a friend go look at it

Hi everyone awesome site
im looking at a 1989 am general humvee that has been restored
.its now turn key with 37kmiles on it.
price is 18.5k.private sale
does this seem like a good deal?
I appreciate any help and input
thank you bill
I'll speak bluntly.

No. It does not strike me as a good deal.

On road titles are the elephant in the room on these things. It's still not sorted out. I predict we're going to either see them all allowed on the road, or all banned from the road. I can't guess which. Paying a huge premium for one that someone has managed to get a title for doesn't make sense to me.

At your price point , I'd buy one of the M1123s from GP. On road title, and not in a grey area currently.

My opinion, others may vary.

Note that I don't have a hmmwv of any kind. I find it too likely that the decision will be to remove them all from the road. I don't want to be stuck with a really heavy wide expensive ATV.

I agree with this. The M1123 is the way to go for the highest quality HMMWV commonly available with the best paperwork. Even still, we have one member on here that's have a challenge with one in Virginia. So it's not perfect...

Question why someone would buy something for almost 25k (listed on their site) and turn around and sell it a couple months later for 18.5k?

Ya definitely not a smart investment.said he needs the money for his Compny.
he does have excellent feedback on eBay as a seller and a buyer.
he paid 23k for it a few months ago.

One more thing check with your insurance and see if they insure a HMMWV and remember this is not a Hummer when asking.

"Restored" is such a loose term- almost always these dealerships flipping it say "restored" when it means they slapped fresh paint on it and fixed the bare minimum needed to make it drive well.

When I think restored I think all major assemblies taken down and refurbed from the bottom up. Not a quick coat of paint and PM job. But folks know they can call it "restored" and people will think it is better deal than it is.

It does happen but it does raise a small red flag in my head. I would get someone to put eyes on it and make sure since the first pictures you put up are Bullet's pictures from the site and not the current owner.

Thank you for all the help.i have learned so much already on this site.i looked at the classifieds and there weren't to many humvees for sale.
The ones that were in there seemed to make the one in Florida I looked at for 18.5 a good deal?

The first thing I noticed on the video was that the alternator is not working. Other than that it seems like a nice truck. The engine was revving at 50 mph - I would not plan on driving it home on the freeway. I like the fact that it was updated for the street by a dealer. I would get thorough documentation just in case there is a future issue with on road registration. Also just because its legal in FL doesn't mean it is legal in your state. All things said it does look pretty nice. the price is kind of high but it would be well worth it if you are getting a complete working truck. Tops and doors can get expensive. I can't count the times I have wished I had spent a few extra dollars up front rather than trying to hunt down parts after the purchase...
