My rig is a 2006 M1165. It has a 200amp alt. The other day it quit on me. RPM gauge doesn't work and the voltage gauge is in the yellow. I have gone through the Niemoff trouble shooting procedure and with the engine off my ohm reading is 2.5. That reading indicates that the alternator is bad.
My specific question has to do with the free spinning of the alternator. With the engine off I can spin the the nut on the front of the alternator and it will spin freely. When the truck is running, the alternator spins but, with just a little bit of pressure on the back of the unit where the fan is, I can stop the alternator from spinning. Is this normal?
