Remember the acronym, K-I-S-S (keep it simple stupid), not to insult you, just reminding you to check all the easy stuff first as that is where you will usually find the problem. Remember too that anything that electricity runs through needs clean and tight connections. Good luck

Heat does funny things when dealing with Ignition. I found that the coil and condenser are effected by heat causing ignition failure. I would check the condenser. It should hold a charge and have no leakage. If it has slight leakage it is still able to function. But when it gets hot it could increase it leak down rate and cause you ignition problems. As for the Coil it should not be effected by heat unless it has either primary or secondary coils that tend to short when hot.
The Carb and Magneto on top of the engine absorb a lot of the heat coming off the engine. The fuel return line keeps the Carb from vapor locking and good coils and condensers will function when they are heated by the engine.
