Note posts 13 & 19. Looks like someone is looking for shared company in the dim position of life. Sucks to be at the helm of a rudderless ship cruising at flank speed! Where in the helll is that iceberg?
I don't know much about Navy stuff but I just wonder if the lights stay on in the dim position?:razz:

Maybe the truck has been on it's side enough to effect the gyroscopic thermodoodle in dash light switch?

Just a thought.

I have a photo of gimp "whipping it out" from across the pond. I haven't posted it yet, since this is a family site. Angie saw it, and commented that I didn't have enough of a telephoto lens for the subject "in hand".
By the way- Check your grounds on your dashlights. I had the same problem, and it was the light ground.:mrgreen:

Over the winter when I turned on my light switch, the dash lights would come on as expected.

Once the heater got the cab warm, the dash lights would go out. Now that it is warm out, I have no dash lights.
This is a easy fix. Put A/C in the truck.

Gimp you forgot to check the blinker and dashlight fluid. It drained out when the truck went sideways

Short between the steering wheel and the drivers seat can cause these problems and more. Need to check that continuity. May also need a gyro mounted diode to prevent backflow to the seat.

The contacts are, or at least used to be silver plated, so be careful with a file for cleaning, perhaps just exercise the switch will do it...

You bring up a good point. In the past on various industrial equipment issues I have found that the silver coating is VERY thin and can easily be removed with a file. For cleaning without removing the silver coating, try a plain old greenback (dollar bill). The cotton fabric of the bill is just abrasive enough to clean the contact without removing the coating.

Seems like the heat is expanding a connection just enough to break a contact, might just need to bend something in the switch for a positive contact after the switch gets warm. I don't think it would be dirt or corrosion if it regularly lit up when cold.
