3 Speed Hydramatic Transmission fluid level

I've drained the transmission. Operators manual states this transmission takes 6qts of Dexron3. I fill with 6 quarts of fluid and the dipstick shows the level is way high? Do I have to warm this thing up to get the level to read correctly or should I drain some out? Appreciate any insight.

I'm guessing that's what it is. I ended up draining enough out so the level on the dip stick was correct.
