700R4 is very similar to the 4L60E most of the parts are interchangeable and the 700R4 can easily be converted to lock up in 4th gear with no computer ETC the weak point of the 700R4 is the front pump and earlier smaller splined input carrier. You will also need to fabricate a TV cable bracket and mounting set up but that should be easy to do. I run a 700R4 in my 76 K2500 truck but the cross member and drive shafts did have to be modified.Just a dumb question here, but a 700r4 would not work in place of the 4L80? I thought they were basically the same case, length etc.?
couldn't agree more on the TH400...they are one of the strongest trannys on the market.You DO NOT want to do a Transmission conversion and put in a 4L60 trans (700R4)... Trust me when I say you will be satisfied with the 4L80E. Everything about this designation is above where you would ever be...in other words the torque capacity is so much higher then anything else out there...with the exception of the Allison Trans of course..!! Also, honestly all said and done the 3L80 (TH400) transmission is a **** strong and reliable unit itself..!!
when designing the 4L80E unit, all the factory did was take a tried and proven platform (TH400) and build upon it...that's all the 4L80E transmission is...a TH400 transmission on steroids...!! Trust me you'll be happy..!!
