Well i'm almost done with the 4l80E trany, redid the valve body to a full manual shift, it uses a vacum module of a 400 for increasing line pressure so i will be instaling a vacum pump set up like 1009, also got a deep pan need to modified a line inside so it sits flush is out of a later 99 or newer 4l80E i belive, will try this for a while and if i do not like it will go back to a normal valvebody with a stand along TCM, will post pictures of the swap from the 3l80 to the 4l80E :???:

Thank you thank you for posting about this!!! I want to do the same thing in my CUCV but am a bit nervous about how things will work out. Can you advise: What kit did you use? How does the shifter which is R-N-D-2-1 work to control 4-3-2-1? Does the kit need any 12 volt connections? Does it shift hard? Thanks in advance.

it looks the shifter was swapped to the OD shifter in his case. what xcase are you going to use? 218 or 242? I have a new TCM and wiring harness for the 80E just no tranny.

No finish yet, got a few days left as i do this in my spare time, on a CUCV the shifter would be your biggest change as you
would need to change the shifter colum to a 4spd OD the good news they are everywhere as the civilan version came with the OD
for many year, my is full manual for now and it should shift firm and as i increase the throtle should get a bit harder thanks
to the vaccum pump, may go back to electronic later with a stand along BAUMAN, for now i will shift it and lock and unlock
the converter my self, i'm using a 242 with cable speedo which is what came with this truck, but i do have a spare electronic
speedo as well

As far of the 12 volt i only need 7 volts to the TCC selenoid and will be using ground to switch it on and off, if i was using a electronis version it would requiere 12 volt as well but with a CUCV is not a problem even with this 24 volt set up all you need is a step down converter it only requieres 20 AMP for full operation in the BAUMANS controler set up..............

Got all the seals for the tranfer case today and had the rear propel shaft cut 2 inches after all my measurements that's what i came up with , need to relocated the fuel filter as this truck had it in the rear of the engine, this HMMWV are big but very tight on space i think tomorrow may make more progress:roll:

i did a couple full manual 4l80e trans for a baja truck a few years ago .we still have one valve body left.pressure is controlled similar to a 400 or 350 ..it still used the lock up soloniod ... they had a couple of controllers to regulate the tcc.

well is all done ,took me all day yesterday to complete it, it came out better than i though, easy to drive and shift, the gears follow the shifter movement they are firm and tigth and the truck feels ligther on the tjrotle maybe do to the xtra stall on the converter do to the lock up ability, mow on the HWY with the OD on the engine is more quiet, will work on the lock up this weekend should be even better, this 4l80E can hold some fluied with the deep pan 16 qts, oh boy here are some more pictures :-D

I have an '86 M996 and I've been told that installing the 4L80E in a HMMWV requires the newer A2 gas tank. Did you have any issues with everything fitting? I know the drive lines need to be changed but that's relatively easy to do.
