5-Ton M923-what is this in the cab?

Recently recovered this Sparta 5-ton. Was told she was used as a refuel truck. It came with a cargo bed re-installed on here. I noticed that there is a formed metal box with heavy gauge wires going to it. Have not really had a hard look at it-its very cold here.
Does anybody know what this is?

That is part of the CTIS.

I'd be shocked if they removed and reinstalled the cargo bed. If that truck was being used a fuel truck, they inserted the 600 gallon fuel pods and reel assembly in the bed. Since the truck still is without troop seats, I bet that is what they meant.

Your truck was a TPU. Look for evidence of placards.

The cargo box looks fresh and sits on new wood strips. The Davit and stack have been removed as well.

They were prob removed so it could be hauled on a regular flat bed verses a step deck. With those removed and the windshield down they could get two of them on a flatbed.
