5 ton owner...finally

Finally got to join the ranks of the 5 ton crowd. Bought today a 1986 5 ton truck. Nhc250 non turbo, 46" super singles. Runs drives great so far. Lol, only got a 45 miles on it so far. Bought it locally. 41k miles. Troop/cargo carrier with canvas and bows. Literally came with the bed full of extra parts, pieces, wheels and tires. Lots more to learn about it I'll be sure to post more pics, updates and questions I'm sure. Really nice looking truck, Heck, maybe you need to use the original picture and start working on your 2021 Holiday Greeting Card. That snow with the green monster looks really cool. Yes indeed, be sure to post of a few pictures of you new "sweetie" to show off on the site!

Congrats on the 5 ton the 939 series are great trucks especially with the 855 series non-turbo engine, simple to work on very reliable as long as the maintenance is up to date! I know there is a placard in the truck but remember NOT to use low range in reverse or you will very possibly find out how to replace the bellhousing!!!
Congrats you will have a lot of fun with this truck!

Thanks to all of you for your support. I will definitely not be looking to drop her in low reverse. I am fine not learning the hard way to replace bell housings and or transfer cases. Lol. The truck has MWO tag for the last two over overhauls, the most recent one for 2010 and 5k miles ago. The guy I bought it from really took good care of it and kept it up on service. My sons are really into it, they were stunned by the overwhelming size of it. Took all day to move parts out of the bed, using a bucket loader tractor. It had the tub from an extra cab in the back of it, six extra doors, a fuel tank, 5 super single 46" tires three of which were on the rim, and a whole lot more parts. Not sure what I'm going to do with the bulk of the parts, maybe get a booth at a swap meet if they ever come back. Until then the parts are staying clean and dry in the end bay of the hay shed. More pictures to come for sure.

Congratulations. The 4 color MERDC camo scheme is definitely a rare one for the M939 series trucks. I have only ever seen a handful come out with the 4 color scheme. Good luck with the truck!
The color scheme was one of the things that really drew me to it. I wasn't aware that it was such a rare color, but knowing that makes me love it that much more. Lol, it broke my sons heart as he's been trying to talk me into painting it the desert tan color. I wasn't going for that, and now that its a merdc 4 color, I'm definitely leaving it as original.

I did. We had several Seabee refugees. As a former submarine radioman, I learned lots from them about the dirt/mud side of the Navy. We were a tight-knit family and we still have reunions and whatnot.
I was one of those Seabee refugees! I was with MIUWU 106 in San Diego. Loved that unit, but they did a couple reorg's that eventually sent most of us packing back to the NCF. I ended up with NSW and was there for 11 years before I retired from the Reserves in 2020

First thing I would recommend you to do is pull all the wheel bearing and re-pack them! It is very common that at least one has been put in DRY. I found out the hard way! Then go through and replace all the filters and fluids. Just a tip to save you a massive headache down the road.

My son has been pricing all the fluids, filters and we will add the bearings to be repacked in with the work we are looking to do in very short order. Thanks for the advice on that, definitely don't want to learn lessons the hard way if it can be avoided.
