Few pics. First one is the 2 different adapters. The shorter one is usable but you will have to fab up something to raise it off the crossmember. Pics 2 and 3 show the K cast into the housing. These are 4x4 trans cases and offer some extra strength in a few areas. Last is just a pic of the 27 spline input shaft.

How about that....my case has the "K" on it, and I have the shorter adapter as well. Although my transmission isn't that clean...nor is the bed of my wifes truck now.

The guy I got it from pulled it without draining it...now I have the "Road Oiler II" ATF all through the bed.

Also, he gave me the TV cable with it, but it appears that he broke the plastic flange off of the transmission side, so I'll probably need to buy a new cable.

New cables are pretty affordable Tom. I have been scouring craigslist now for over a year for odds and ends for the 700. I ended up with 3 4x4 versions of the trans, one 2WD version, the 27 spline input to convert the transfer case, an extra 208 and a 241 case. Before the next GA Rally I will have one in my M1008 and probably in the M1010 as well. I need to stop buying parts and start building transmissions.

The only difficult thing to acquire when I did this swap was the bracket for the TV cable. Everything else can be easily found at a junkyard, parts store, or just ordered online. If you've got the bracket then you're all set.

I have a line on a bracket as well... ;-)

I just looked tonight when I took the transmission off of the wife's truck, the fill tube has a hole in it right where the rubber seal is at on the bottom....so I guess I need that part as well. But as was mentioned, nothing too hard to find. It won't be too long till the "Road Oiler" is back on the road and going highway speeds.

An interesting tidbit I learned recently. The K case does not have to have a "K" cast on it, to have the necessary upgrades. What matters is the dust cover bolts. Are they sheet metal screws (not a K case) or are there 6 large machine screws (K case)? I am told this is the only universal qualifier.

On a side note I have priced TV cables at around $30-40 recently.

In reference to earlier posts, I have done a lot of research regarding the "lowly" 700 of late and found the following:

The primary weak points of 700's are the 3-4 clutch pack.
sprag gears (early units)
input shafts
Tv cable adjustment is critical and accounts for most failures. Abuse is likely the close second.
Don’t forget about TC lockup, it is crucial, especially in early models.

There are many other parts that can and will brake if abused or put under excessive strain. Race built transmissions may not be appropriate for a relatively weak, low revving diesel.

I talked to several manufacturers and builders, by both email and phone. The consensus is that neither red nor blue frictions are ideal for my application. With a lot of time spent on this, I decided to go with factory style frictions in low/reverse and the Raybestos "Z-pack" in 3-4. The high friction tan in the low/reverse is also an option. Additionally, we are up grading the internal components that can be swapped without too much hassle.

My case is an '83 K case with 27 spline input and other small junk on the inside. I will be leaving it 27 spline. Why? Well, I have the case and it is in good shape (no direct cost). Diesel cases, especially 85 and up, are hard to find (valve bodies are not necessarily interchangeable). I don't think my fire breathing monster will have the torque to break it once built. I won't be drag racing or rock crawling.

The above observations are opinions expressed in there relevant contexts. The fitness of a transmission in your application may vary. The term "fire breathing monster" is used euphemistically, even with a turbo, Dana 60s, 4.10s, lockers, and a twin sticked np205, I doubt I will be having problems. If it breaks, I will let you guys know.

Attached is a picture of my dust cover (pre build) I will try to find a better one.

Added. I had to go out and take one. Hope you guys appreciate all my hard work! ;)

I agree with the case observation. I have an NOS case without the K but it hase the correct dust cover holes. I will dig it out for pics.
