Too fast for quick stopping. No matter how good your tires are or your front end alighmnet 98% of all M1009 trucks will fish tail to the right when skidding.
The olnly way to pull out is to release the brakes and that can lead to other problems (BANG).
If you have 33 inch tires you can comfortably run 70 MPH with a tolerable engine RPM but that speed is too much for engine to stay healthy with standard 31 inch tires no tto mention the MPG above 70.
The OEM M1009 shock setup is two on front and if you have the civy option of Quad Shocks (2 per side) then this helps the nose dive that is prevelant is diesel powered Blazers & Jimmys too.
Stay a little slower and stay healthy and alive.

I run my stock 1009 70-75 with no problems at all. Have hit 80 (on my GPS) to pass without incident as well. Don't expect to have a conversation, though!

I was Just going to start a thread when I read this, What is the Max. cruising speed for my M1008? It does not seem to like to Cruise at more than 60. I keep it between 55 and 60. I have not purchased a tach for it yet, but sounds like it is screaming at 65.

I run my M1008 right at 50 most of the time on the road. It will run 65, but it is howling. My previous M1008 was better on fuel than this one is by four or five miles per gallon. You paid a heavy penalty in fuel milage running over 50. I try to drive 48 with them, but that is hard even for an old guy like myself. I sure see a lot more wildlife at 45-50 than I do at 70! You can add cars, trucks, oddities in nature, building features etc.... to that too. :-D

I did make a hard run at 65 with this one to pick up my M1009 in Jefferson City and I had puddles under it when I stopped. It never puddled before and has not since. (Thankfully!)

Theres older threads on this. The general consensus was that 1009's doing +70mph were running a lot closer to their redline than comfortable. If Iam driving to Indy for FDIC and Im excited to be going I do have to consciously keep my foot out of the gas, cause it will do 75 w/o effort. You can also watch that fuel needle slide faster towards "E" too. The national highway speed at the time these trucks were built was 55mph and thats where they get their best mileage and performance. Motors will last a little longer.

On the other highways around here (i 94 and 65) they can pass me on the left all day cause Im not going over 65.

There would be no way in **** I would run a M1009 at 70+ mph...

The key to making the 6.2 last is keeping the RPM's low...

If you want to cruise at 70+, put a 700r4 in your truck...

65 max on the interstate and 60mph on other highways...

I would like to not have to replace a motor anytime soon.

RPM is hard on diesels....

M1009 on 31" tires is 2337 at 70; 2671 at 80

M1008 on 32" tires is 3460 at 70; 3954 at 80

I always maintained that my M1008 got the best combination of fuel milage and speed at 48ish..

M1008 on 32" tires at 48 is 2298, when I felt like I was hammering on my M1008 to run 65 for 400 miles, I was... 3112 is humming for a 6.2 on an extended run like that. The guys that say theirs will run 85 for an extended run.... M1008 is screaming at 4070, that rpm is hard on a small block Chevrolet, much less a 6.2 diesel.

I think the army was right on when they posted 55 for the M1008 at a top road speed, 2633 rpm is humming pretty good.

If you are interested, a M1009 at 85 is 2838, they will do it, but that is a lot of rpm... just my two cents worth...

A M1008 on 35" tires is turning 2627 at 60. Glen

I believe its 3600 under full load, and something about 3800 or 4100 under no load, so be weary about placing that brick on the gas pedal:cry::cry::cry::cry:

Ive run my 1009 up to the governor, or until "she dont go no more", the motor is screaming and the speedo is somewhere about straight down so I think she can turn at 80 all day no prob

M1009 can probably run 80 all day long, the engine will last longer and get much better fuel mileage a little slower. In good condition though, 80 should not be beyond the engine's rpm range. 70 is fast enough for me, but I am an old man....

I have to chime in here. I have had my blazer since 2004 I got it with 36000 miles on it, it currently has just over 100,000. I have never hadanything go wrong with the 6.2 except the IP at 97000. I drive 75-80 everyday. It is in stock form. The only issue I havewith it is how noisy it is. I fixed that by buying a com set that I can plug my xm radio or ipod into to. As a side note I use this vehicle off road and it has probably twice the milage in idleing time

I baby my trucks because I want to keep them, not see what they can do. For that reason, I max out at 70 mph in an M1009 and 60 mph in an M1008/M1028 (although 65 and 55 respectively are about what I run them). They will definitely go faster.
