Picked it up for a song. All mechanically sound, but in need of some cosmetic TLC.
Faded CARC, so faded that it looks foliage instead of OD.
Trashed drivers seat, so went and got some replacement suburban seats.
Pulled out all the trash and junk from the floor...
The rubber was all but falling apart... Waddya expect from an almost 30 y/o vehicle?
Well, almost 30 years of dirt and mud, apparently, but luckily, only surface rust.
I used a stiff bristle brush, some naval jelly, and cleaned it up, then coated it with a rust inhibitor.
Then I installed peel and seal on the floor, to help with heat retention/reflection, and noise reduction.
Halfway done..
Picked up some dark green exterior carpet from Home Depot, and some foam, which will be going in the passenger compartment. Haven't figured out what I'll do with the 'bed' as yet. Originally I was going to go with the grey below it, but after getting a few opinions, the consensus was that the green was better. Not only for color matching, but wear, stains, etc.
Used a wire brush to start removing the chipping CARC on the hood...Heard it wasn't so good to inhale, so I pulled out the only filtration I had. Heh. The filter expired, so it wasn't good for CBRN, but I'm sure it'll do fine for dust particles.
Tomorrow (today) will be a fun day! Gotta put in all the padding, carpet, etc. replace the dash, and then figure out what I'm gonna do with the back area.
Then comes communications gear, antennas, and paint!
