You might have drums that should have been "turned" several shoe replacements ago. Possibly there is a ridge on the inside edge of the drum that is getting hung up on the shoe - as you try to pull the drum off. Backing on on the self-adjuster might solve the removal.

Again, similar but different. That gizmo (self adjuster) is below the green spring at the bottom (generally). It is adjusted through a removable rubber plug on the bottom of the brake plate. In a perfect world you have the correct "Brake Spoon" for your particular vehicle. Until then, a wide flat bladed screwdriver will do the job...
