Air compressor intake run to Air Cleaner nipple.

Has anyone ran the air compressor intake over to the manufactured supplied nipple on the air cleaner box. I would think this mod would compliment the fording features of the truck and is probably better anyway to get filtered air into the compressor instead of dust and dirt from the road and trails.

I was thinking a copper 3/4" or 1" hard line since a hose can get warm, pliable and collapse with suction.

Any pictures would be appreciated if anyone has done this mod.

I saw this done on BoatCarpenter's deuce.

Just a reminder it actually isn't filtered air, the nipple and air intake are both on the outer side of the air filter.

I plugged the nipple on my filter housing so I could cut off that air in the event of an engine runaway. Not sure what a run-away engine would do do a rubber hose so I agree maybe a hard line would be the way to go, but its still unfiltered air.

I have! Just used a piece of 1" marine bildge pump hose, the air canister barb is on the outside of the filter so no filtration to the compressor.

OK, my bad, I guess I will plug the existing hole and tap a new one to get filtered air. It's good insurance for long term. The honey do list is never complete. Thanks for your input gentlemen.

I just spent a half hour looking for the TM specifically for the single piston air compressor. 1971 M109A3. Can someone post it if it does exist...?

I noticed that on my M923 5-ton, the air compressor doesn't appear to have its own filter and its intake is plumbed to the engine intake manifold where it'll get air that's been cleaned up by the main engine air filter. This seems like a good arrangement to me, and I don't see why something similar couldn't be done on a deuce.

I just tore apart a 1972 single head compressor given to me. I was told it was operating submerged for less than a minute to cross a river. The compressor was beyond repair, blew out the seals and cracked the head.

I am guessing running the compressor air intake to a filtered sealed source is a smart move, you never know when the need strikes and you have to go swimming.

The compressor on the m656/xm757 series trucks (1969) takes air from the filtered side of the engine air filter..from factory, no mod.

I just added the hose from the compressor to the air cleaner box this afternoon. I used 1 inch heater hose and a couple of clamps. I am that much closer to getting the duece underwater!!

The air compressor has a filter on it's intake. remove the two bolts holding the intake to the compressor. It's in there. As far as the hose goes. Mine has been there since 1999 and many thousands of miles. With no problems at all

also the filter might not be the type you are expecting.. its "hard" and not paper about 2" tall and round like a tiny oil filter. also watch out because it is under spring tension.
