I share your thoughts on the "almost" no wear to the Sprag since the only extra components spinning have no real load on them without the driveshaft installed. Reinstalling the driveshaft for a flat-tow would fully disengage the Sprag though resulting in the absolute minimum wear on the compontents.

I wouldn't install the front driveshaft because you don't know if the sprag does have a problem.

I don't see a minimal wear condition as long as the wheels are turning. All of the components in the front drive are spinning under normal circumstances and the sprag only locks to drive the front axle under poor traction conditions.

Pull the spline caps on the front axle and the axles out of the rear axle(housings) and you'll be rolling on just wheel bearings..

ABSOLUTE disconnect from the driveline.
