I really appreciate the people I've met on this site. Everyone has bent over backwards to help me out. It is very rewarding to come here and both gain and share knowledge. Heck, a couple SS members got me into this hobby. I met a few more who helped move a member's trucks from Georgia to Wisconsin. I understand another is bringing a truck to Wyoming for a member. I read the posts where a member is traveling a distance with a truck and other members send contact info so if there is trouble they can help the guy out.
I also read posts about members who used to post here and people wonder why they quit posting here, hummmmm.....
Thanks for raising the question about the paint the first time.
I don't want to be disrespectful toward anybody's opinion, but can we please just move this thread forward?

I'm just sayin I had some 81mm mortar ammo cans that looked like they had been CARC'd on the exterior.
Even if it isn't CARC it might not be healthy to use as cooking or heating apparatus.
Way before CARC the military used some very unhealthy primers and things, as they are not subject to all the rules that civilians are subject to when it comes to public safety.
I thought I was being respectful.

I feel I would be remiss to not raise the questions. I'm not trying to be a jerk but I know I would not cook in something painted unless I knew the paint was safe for food preparation use. You should also be careful what you burn inside a tent or enclosed area. Some people read this thread and want to buy the grills and heaters. Some see this and want to make their own. I have nothing against any of that. As stated previously I have helped make grills from military stuff. I posted pics of the grill. Our grills were blasted, thoroughly cleaned, and seasoned inside with the proper oil. We would not use them if they still had green military paint inside.
Just please be careful. It is my opinion that paint inside or on a grill or heater can release harmful stuff when heated. It is a fact that the military uses some very toxic stuff for coatings. You can make your own determinations from there.
Cheers.

I was at the ACE Hardware store to get some paint stripper for something else last week, I found a spray stripper which took the paint off down to the steel. You spray it on and wait an hour then use a putty knife to scrape off the what looked like oatmeal off the metal. I think your right and I applaud your thinking and these should be stripped 1st just for peace of mind. Good Looking out.

Please contact: twa@ezdn.net to order yours, His name is "TIM". The update on the paint issue, The inside paint on both units burned off no worries there, its bare metal and the exterior hi-temp BBQ paint is still in excellent shape. I am the customer, not the seller.

Here is a bigger one! I have this one in a GP small tent I set up in the back yard and it does a fine job heating it. I have smoke leaking around the lid. Hope to find the material today to fix that issue. It only happens when the door of the stove is all the way open. At this point I have not installed a dampener.

I guess its time to break out that grill. Tim, this weekend I'm using the large grill for salmon. I have only used your smaller unit to this point. Will post pictures of the successful BBQ.

Had a going away party tonight. I used the large Ammo Can grill for the first time. I cooked burgers and steaks. Service for 6. This was the first time I fired up this model. It did an excellent job with a little bit of charcoal. Thanks Tim..!
