Thought I would share an interesting vehicle project with y'all. It has unfortunately had to sit for the last few years because of other necessities, but hopefully will be back on track by the end of this year. I am still looking for information regarding this prototype truck, so if you know of any please let me know. It is designated as a 5-ton 8x8, built by REO of Lansing, MI in the mid-1950s. The driveline is all basically 2 1/2 ton M-44, using the same differentials, brakes, transmission, transfer case, etc... The differences are that the frame and axle housings are about ten inches wider than the deuce, the cab is set up as a cabover and it has an additional front steering axle. The cab is the same as the standard 5 and 2 1/2 ton units, except for the cowl and the doors, which were modified to open to the rear. You can see some more information about this on my old website located here - http://my.freeway.net/~pwrwgn/PW~XM282.htm - unfortunately not all of the pictures and links are still active because the ISP has been sold a couple of times, leaving me with no way to update it.
