I live in a gated subdivision and am on the board of directors for the POA and drive a deuce or five ton or jeep to all neighborhood functions and everyone loves them .

Code Enforcement comes out to my house about once a month, can get away with anything, well its a newer subdivision. We just got 9.2ac of industrial land so they can kiss my nuggets! Its a shame a person doesnt have any freedom on his own land, does anybody pay my taxes for me? Heck no!

I could see if you had a junk yard in the middle of town there being a problem. But if you restore a vehicles, no matter what the size, it is your hobby and unfortunate that people can dictate what you do. Then again I guess it is some peoples hobby to collect garbage and make a mess. We are bias because it is our hobby. There is a personal space and privacy line that IS being crossed, and that pisses me off.

Texas titled and licensed MV's

I live in Wisconsin and own 2 CUCV's and an M35A3. What are the titling requirements, usage restrictions on the above mentioned MV's in Texas. I have access to a freinds' parents" home-address in San Antonio and am considering taking my SF-97s to texas to title and license the vehicles. Thoughts, comments, suggestions appreciated. Does Texas do inspections on the vehicles?

I received a visit from the nice police lady the other day. She said there was a complaint about my motorcycle trailer and deuce parked in the street, and asked if they would fit in my driveway.

So, the deuce and MC trailer are now in the driveway after a little cleanup project.

However, she also had to slap a tow tag on another neighbor's trailer and he didn't take it quite so kindly. His trailer is now parked in front of the house of the lady who complained.

There is also a nice sign on the trailer. Will post the photo of that after blanking out the phone number.

I live near the entrance of my complex. I have aobut 35 houses in the complex. I have 3 whinners continually complaining about my trucks. Last night someone tried to throw a rock through the windshield of my 1009 with a note attached to it. Police just left after taking the report.

They tried to get the builder to kick the truck out. He asked but I asked who was complaining, he refused to say so I refused to move. Then the police came but said it wasn't even worth the stop other than at least I offered them coffee. Guess that failed. Then they threw trash on my lawn and left a note in the mailbox. Now they are resorting to vandalism. What wonderful neighbors.

Wow, they don't like looking at a truck but they like looking at garbage all over the yard I guess.

I say leave the garbage, if you get a complaint, note that apparently the same people complaining about the truck think garbage looks great and that neither will be going anywhere till they pick up the garbage they left.

Gotta say I'm a little confused here. HOA's, code enforcement, police enforcement....where in the world are you folks living...Russia? In the service if you lived on base, you followed the rules. Don't like the rules, leave the base and live in town. Been there done that, hated it. Now live in the country. Neighbors do what they want, I do what I want. Can't imagine voluntarily living in a place where people get in your face every day. Sorry if this sounds a bit combative, but someone comes on my property to mess with my stuff, they're getting a facefull of attitude. Reason: I chose to live where I make the rules, guns (as well as swords, dogs, knives and killer ground squirrels) are permissable to protect ones self, family and property. No codes (other than common courtesy), no HOAs, none of that stuff. I know folks can't always pick where they live, but dang...you're describing military enforcement carried out by base housing authority that is just this side of torquemada!

Wyoming is in the middle of no where...the air is thin and moves at extreme velocity..and is as close to heavan as you can get. People are friendly if you are and will stop and give a hand if you need it. MV's are not required, but sure make getting around in the winter a bunch easier....

Funny you should mention living on base, I felt I had more freedom and less eyes watching me when living on a base than living in a HOA.

Some of us got bit by the MV bug well after moving to a socialist HOA. It seems that you don't think about it until you are "targetted". I found that bored soccer moms living the Martha Stewart fantasy are the WORST for complaining. Never again for me. I'm in the woods now and happy. I just need to get the fleet moved 1500 miles now.

Life in "The Liveable Forest" of Kingwood, TX

I have been dealing with my home owner's association since I moved into "the bubble" we call Kingwood. It first started with a '53 ford customline I was restoring in and out of the garage.... mostly in but on nice days I would roll it out onto the drive and enjoy the fresh air. I got a "letter" stating I was not allowed to do "major repairs" in the driveway...... I wrote back, and informed them, until i start pulling the motor on the thing I was doing any Major repairs.

If you look at my pe you can see I love the old trucks.
My driveway has a minimum of 4 or 5 vehicles in it every day. One of the neighbors asked if I did any car repair for pay?
I had to be nice and say no, I do it for free, unless you want to watch....

Now that I have the MV added to the other vehicles the retired watchdogs are keeping the eagle eye on my "operation"

I am the same guy that during Ike was helping everybody hook up their generators or allowing them into my house. Had a 15Kw portable to run the place, now have a permanent mounted 25Kw powered by NG.
I wonder which of my "neighbors" will ask about "borrowing" my other one after the storm hits and need me to help them hook it up....???

I'm glad the people that volunteer for POA do it, there needs to be some order, but the "rednecks" like myself keep them in check.

I like the neighborhood and tolerate the neighbors.

If you don't like what the HOA or POA is doing, GET INVOLVED. I did!!

Carmel ME.... Been there.... I used to go hunting in Bangor and Houlton...

This is the PRIME reason why I chose to live in the sticks....

Florida has LOTS of HOA's and all the "Condo/HOA Commandos" do is complain.

They complain that there are people in the pool after hours, they complain when some one does yard work and the pile is too high, they complain when ever they want about ANYTHING.

I stayed with my grandmother for about a year while saving some money and paying bills. She had a second home that she hardly used in an HOA and they had a no pickups clause. I had to park my Lariat F-150 in the gerage while someone with a rust bucket camero and another with a jeep could park outside.

The problem was that when I put my winch rollers on the truck it was 2" too long to fit.

I was going hunting the next day so I moved the truck into the driveway, put the rollers on, and started laying out my gear on the floor in the gerage. Fully intending on staying at my folks home about 30 minutes away to avoid problems. Now I work mids, so I was doing this about 2300 hrs. I had my rifle, ammo, food and gear all over the floor and had to make a personal "call" so I closed the outside door. In the time this took I had a warning on my truck.

The next one I got was when I put the gerage door down over the tailgate. They actually came into my gerage, by climbing under the door, to put the notice on the truck. I finally went to the management and asked where I could park, they told me the RV lot, so I did. Walking back in the rain, over 1 1/2 miles. The next day, yup, another warning my 3rd (the fourth they tow you). I went to the office and ask why I got a note on my truck and they told me that I had to petition the board to park there and that I missed the meeting this month and approval would take 2 months.

The first thing we need to do to get out of this pickle is to fight the legislation that allows for HOA rules to be different than county/city codes. Once these mirror state law or town ordinance it will be an easier fight. HOA's are so bad for your personal rights. They can actually put a lein on your home and take it from you when you refuse to pay the fines for violating their "laws".

I also went to rent an apartment after this and just before I signed the lease with my roomate, I asked if they allowed trucks, more as a joke than not. The leasing agent told me that they do not allow trucks (I drove in in one). She further added that they have had people sell their trucks to rent here. I had a few carefully chosen words expressing my disapproval with their policies and told them that I would NEVER sell my truck.

Just my .02 and a story about a $30k truck that was not falling apart, wasn't camo (wheat colored), with standard size tires, and no other markings.

Daytona Beach Florida sucked not just for the HOAs, but the rediculous city ordinances. Ya can't even have a dually pickup parked in the driveway for chrisakes. Dually pickups are considered commercial vehicles. That one is usually not enforced unless someone complains (enter the wonderful neighbors of "tot-lot he11") I could go on, and on.

Completely rerwrote it. The developer was pissed, but couldn't do a thing about it.

Sadly. It's actually fairly easy (at least in massachusetts) to determine the actual rules of a HOA, I was looking at one place that looked nice and looked up the title/other paperwork at the registry of deeds. When they split the lots out to build the development, they attach the rules to the land using legalese that basically says "no matter who this title is transferred to, or how it is transferred, these rules are now part of the land you bought." I decided that I could get a fixer-upper in a less restrictive area for less money and it would have more land to build a garage on and park large vehicles on, so I passed on that property. My realtor didn't even realize it had a HOA attached - when I emailed her to say that I found out it did, her reply was "how'd you do that? it's not in the listing!"

That's all kinds of amazing. I didn't even know you could do that.

Myself and some others from the Jeep club I'm in have considered starting a "vehicle friendly HOA" with special rules - parts vehicles must be kept in the back or side yard only, all loud machine tools must be stopped by 2AM or spectators are allowed into your beer fridge till the noise stops, well-built vehicles are to be parked in the driveway (so we can be jealous) unless being driven, etc etc. Haven't found a way to get it off the ground yet though.

The only way someone especially a HOA would take my paid for home would be over my dead body literally.

HOA's are supposed to make living in a community enjoyable instead they make it a nightmare for most. Why not if you see a neighbor who is out of compliance due to unmowed lawn or mail box needing a coat of paint, offer to help them instead of fining them and putting liens on there property.

We have become a society of sadist who enjoy watching the pain and suffering of others.
