Anybody filed a claim with GL?

Let me get this straight. You made 3 grand on the truck but somehow still feel screwed by GL? :???:

I'd take that kind of screwing any day of the week.
Maybe he would have made $5k-$6k on it with the A/C. So you guys will travel 400 miles each way to preview a truck?

As far as not having the correct pictures with an auction. To me that is incompetent at the least. If a seller did that on Ebay they would have to reimburse the buyer for the sale. I am sure members would not tolerate people using misleading pictures of vehicles in the classifieds.

Not filing a claim before taking possession is dumb as well.

That is where you guys and I differ. I see that GL cost me between $1500-2000 on that truck because it would have sold for more with an A/C system. I buy and sell iron for a sideline business. I buy and sell locally as well as with multiple national and regional online auction companies. If I screw up looking at pictures and miss say a hole in the block that is pictured or a landing gear that is broken, or a bent frame on a truck, I will eat my mistake and make the best of the situation.
If the auction company makes an obvious error in their listing and then chooses not correct the error in some manner, that is bad business. I have had this issue with other assets that I have bought from other auction companies and in every situation the auction companies have worked with me to come to a amicable solution. GL claims office didnt even want to talk to their employee at the Red River Depot to see the picture she took and the documentation she generated while the truck was still in GL possession. Online auctions are all about truthful and correct pictures. Those pictures are the #1 thing that bidders rely on to establish a price threshold for an asset. The more pictures and the better the pictures, the more an asset will bring in an online auction.
I am still buying from GL and still making very good money turning military surplus into civilian cash. I have quite a few items from GL being utilized on the farm in one form or another. The truck deal is water under the bridge and I have moved on. There is too much money to be made to grouse over a single small deal, I just dont like to lay down for somebody else's mistake. I never have and I never will. You cant be told YES, if you dont ask!!!!

Have you read the GL terms and conditions? It clearly says that they are not responsible for the accuracy of the pics or description. It's not that I'm defending their lousy customer service but it is what it is. You can't flip trucks from e-bay or craigslist and consistently turn $3K profit on trucks so you've got to play their game if you want to stay in this business.

Golden Eagle, No I don't travel 400 miles to look at trucks. Here's what I bid by, if I'm not willing to possibly loose what I pay for a item over scrap price I don't bid. I buy and sell a few trucks also but I know full well that I may be buying a pile of parts if I don't go check the truck out. I take the risk and have made good money on trucks before but I've also lost or barely broke even on a couple.

Yes GL can be incompetent at times but as I said above, it is what it is. Sure, ebay sellers wouldn't last long doing some of the stuff GL does but last time I checked ebay prices are close to retail where GL is in the wholesale business.

The canned statement of policy by GL is a cover your arse fluff statement which gives them plausible deniability.
They are in fact responsible for accurate advertising and descriptions.

If you leave the premises with a signed release form, it is buyer beware and you lose all rights to any claim, but even then a claim would be considered depending on circumstance. Very unlikely you get anything out of them once removed, very likely you will if you make you make the call to HQ before attempting any removal. Even then you will have to be persistent and work it up the chain until you get the answer you want.

So if you haven't removed the property and have not signed for it, and the GL rep agrees that stuff is missing after the fact what is the likely hood they will cancel the sale and refund all your money?

All those things become negotiable. This board and others are filled with negotiated terms and agreements worked out including paying travel expenses for time and materials. Your limitations are your personal skills, the specifics of the problems, and whom you negotiate with. Sometimes they want to swap out resources, sometimes partial payments, sometimes full refunds. Not sure anyone could make a specific statement on percentages without knowing the full specifics of the issues, but chances are good if you know how to negotiate, if you negotiate with Arizona rather then local, and you make no effort to remove the property until you start and finish the negotiations. You might not get the desired results in the same day making it even more difficult for the traveler.

Holy cow we actually agree! I had the windshield and light stolen from a M35 that was at Pineville, LA. Those were the days that it took 3 months for the first EUC to clear. I was hospitalized with congetive heart failure when it came time to recover the truck. I sent 2 friends to recover the truck. I got a call asking why there was no windshield (winter time) on the truck. I told them it was there when I purchased it. They were not told by the GL rep to file a claim at the time of pickup. So they drove it back as is.

I contacted GL and was told I should have filed a claim at time of recovery. I explained the situation to them and sent them pictures of the truck showing the missing parts. (I was lucky that Wreckerman had the parts for sale) They ended up giving me the cost o the parts as credit on my account for future purchase. Ended up using the credit a few months later.

So GL will sometimes pay up for a issue do to their error. (lack of security in my case). If you don't ask the answer is automatically NO. So what do you have to lose!
