@US6x4 You rock. Thanks for the reference. However I did pick up three sets of 16.00 Konig square link chains this summer. Right now I can only run a set on the front. I am putting in some time to figure the best way to extend my torque rods about 2-2.5"each. With the current gap of about 1" this will get me about 5" which I think will be plenty. The slow down here is paying for the drive-line mods, where one will need to be lengthened and one to be shortened. Additionally we have here in the Salt Lake Valley AAA spring which I imagine could build me an extended spring pack that will be needed that basically holds the rear tandems in alignment.
The only other way to run chains on the rears for me would be an attempt at a set of track chains for the rears. This would be done with about 30 trampoline springs per side keeping significant tension on the tire chains inner ring where it gaps the tires. These springs would be crimped on one end, and then when the chains are put onto the rig, the springs would each be pulled taunt. This method, I AM THINKING... will keep the chain centered on the tires, allow for some debinding between the two axles when the suspension is flexed as well. I may or may not try it. I have boosted the height of my bed a few inches just to make sure that the tires and chains if ever I get to this as I don't want the chains tearing up the bed of the truck especially now that I have lockers as something would break.
I was thinking to do this tandem chain thing originally with bungee cords, but the tramp springs are way tougher and would more likely survive my driving style. Here is a link to my build page where I was first imagining how it would work:
