Camp Adams at the Arlington Fly-In after action report
We are pleased to once again report a successful encampmentat the Fly-In. Some decline in attendance within camp was expected knowing someparticipants would choose the MVPA National Convention in Portlandonly 10 days after Arlington.Nonetheless, we had 98 vehicles, 28 tents and 10 major displays.
Special attraction items included Flying HeritageCollections’ P-47 Thunderbolt, Hetzer and German Flak 88. Historic FlightFoundation brought its P-51 Mustang, L-4 and military Beaver. Game Wardensbrought the PBR. We also had the Scorpion and WWII Stuart tank demonstratingagainst the German tank destroyer..
The weather was outstanding, luring our largest audience tothe multiple tank demonstrations. Sunny skies contributed to an increase inboth civilian aircraft and a nice line of Warbirds.
Special thanks go to the men and women who assisted with thelarge tent takedowns on Sunday. Wesimply cannot have large tents without a great crew to manhandle them up anddown.
Saturday night provided a new adventure. Camp Adamspersonnel, with vehicles and tramping feet, walked the runway following thenight pyrotechnic air show to inspect the tarmac for debris.
The International Military Lawn Dart Association held itscompetition Friday and Saturday evenings (rifle grenades fired from a M1Garrand). Winners came within inches of the distant target.
Future Now Hear This reports will take us all toward the2014 event. Start thinking of what to bring, make early requests for vacationtime, and convince your comrades that Camp Adams is the place to be next year.
