Scored a 97 1097A2 on GP about 2 weeks ago. First time dealing with GP, so we'll see how that goes. Already have the EUC processed and sent to TSC, so fingers crossed it doesn't take too long (although we know how that goes)

It was listed as a non runner. Looks fairly complete for what it is. Obviously the first order of business is to get it up and running, and go through all the mechanicals to make sure it's sound, but after that I have some pretty cool plans for it. It won't be a total original restoration, but it won't deviate too far from what it is.

I can't wait to get started! I figured I'd get a thread started to document the progress.

Will be fun project with some elbow grease! Just picked mine up yesterday. Can't wait for it to warm up past 20degrees to go try and start it!

I know, its been frigid here the last few days. Hopefully the paperwork clears fast (doubt it) and I can get to work soon.

Maybe we'll see each other around at some shows or something?

Been about a month so far. Still twiddling my thumbs lol

Already in talks with Blue Ox for a set of his door skins and rear curtian. Going with the tinted windows all around. Should look good.

Very interesting that yours has the underbody protection kit installed. I have seen complete kits around $1k and pieces sold but can't recall a truck sold with it installed.
Nice score and bonus.

What is the small canister by the fan delay solenoid/switch? Also, where are you located in MA?

I'm in Newburyport.

I don't know what that is. I haven't seen it on the other trucks I was looking at. It's strange looking.

Yeah, I noticed they were on there. It's missing the big center section, but the front and rear are present. Pretty cool.

Ahhhh, we communicated about that really rusty 998 in Barnstable a while back. Heading to Danvers tomorrow to pick up a brush guard.

Yeah, I noticed they were on there. It's missing the big center section, but the front and rear are present. Pretty cool.
I did not see the whole underbody of yours. There is also a solid shield under the transfer case and another on fuel tank.

I suspect private smithy had to do so some maintenance and dropped it but did not want to put it back up. Easy to drop with one person but definitely easier to put back with 2. Don't ask me how I know....

lol I'm sure it was abandoned somewhere. That sucks, but I can't complain for what I got it for.



Anyone have any idea what that can shaped object is near the fan solenoid?

I believe that is a power plug for a shelter
What kind of shelter would they use on a 4 man? Just from zooming in on my phone, I think it was an Airforce truck.

I used that plug mount to install a battery cutoff. It already had two heavy 0 guage cables to the plug from the batteries so just had to swap one connection. But mine is a two man, so I haven't installed rear passenger seats back there.

Over the course of its life it could have been many things, I bought a two door that had rear seat bases added after it was manufactured.
Normally the 4 door did not have close out panels behind the front seats.

Don't have a key lock for the run/start switch so it also gives a little security when parked unattended on the farm. Is convenient to open the rear half door and flip the hidden switch. The switch is behind the passenger seat. If the vehicle has side panels instead of doors that location might not work. No worries about shorting anything out since one connection is to the shunt ground and the other to the negative battery post.
