Has anyone ever experienced axle wind up from tires that aren’t exactly the same tread depth? I guess I’m not sure if that ever a problem with these trucks? I thought perhaps one should remove that rear drive shaft and run it with the forward rear axle?

If the tread wear if from use on the vehicle you should not experience problems.

IF you have a sprag clutch..DO NOT set off in 2nd gear after reversing.

And, IF you get wind up, drive in the opposing direction that caused it, a short distans 'Jogging' the clutch.
