Hello, The extreme cold weather here in the Mid-Atlantic have manifested itself.
My M1008 cranks but will not start, with out the use of either after disconecting the GP'S.
Engine block heater plug IN, winter fuel additive, New Batteries, GP's, GP controler card, GP solenoid, GP temperature sensor, relays, fuses, filters & fluids, belts and PRO. rebuilt Alternators.
The batteries and electrical check voltage points all check OK, switch ON or Running, with the exeption of the front #1 Batterie, Its Voltage will drop to 11.90v or less overnight, after it was fully charge and hydrometer check.
I must have a bad wire or connection (I had check and clean ALL, from battery to firewall)
I am goin to temporarilly install a batterie disconect switch on the front batterie.
I am not sure if it should be on the POSSITVE or NEGATIVE?

Thanks

I'M not trying to say your wrong. But I have always thought putting the disconnect on the positive would be better. I would rather disconnect the - terminal and just leave it until you want to run it.

Drove to the parts store at 8:15 PM and pick up their last Quick disconnect battery terminal. The instruction recommends to install it, in the negative terminal if in a "Negative ground System".
The guy at the parts store, said to have work on this vehicles during active service and "that it really did not matter, because you will not have continuance of electricity one way or another" , I am clueless ???
I ended installing it in the front Positive terminal, simply because I had already replace that terminal and did not want to remove the press-in Negative cable ends unless I most. I hope this works for the moment, until I can trouble shout the problem.

Thanks for the advice.

allrevup, did you also replace the 2 black relay boxes next to starter solenoid, I had a drain that took forever to find, it was the one the volt meter is wired to...but could be either one. good luck

I am able to start my m1009 in all temperatures without glowplugs if the block heater is plugged in, are you sure your heater is working?

I wonder about that?
I have never needed to use it. So yesterday after running the block heater for two hours, I clear some of the 30" plus of snow and crawl under and could not really feel any heat at the block around the heater, but I could heard a bubleling sound around the area. Also when conecting the 50' ft. 14 gauge Med. duty extension cord W. power on indicator. The heater would make an audible sound.

Also T_F_E_ Kudos on your project and easy to follow turbo built write-up!

I may have found the reason for the front battery drain. I reconnected the power source to my AUXILIARY LIGHT CONTROL BOX in the wrong power terminal and even do the light were OFF, the 6 indicator switches were "ON" all the time and they are hard to see in the day time
Upon further trouble shouting I found that a few Glow Plugs are toast. Maybe the cause of my sudden starting issues.
When I was checking/looking for my starting problem, I was touching the Glow plug body not the tip so they check OK. I was so pissed ones I realize my mistake that I pull a couple of the glow plugs GREEN wires out of wire luum. Now I am not sure of their exact order.
My question is; Are this GP's wires in some kind of order?
I can't find any information to that efect in the TM's. other the a casual reference to "mark the GP wires location"
Not sure YET as to what lead to the GP's failure after less the two month, other the something having to do with the low voltage in the front battery none the less another set of GP's is in orther, the choises are the original and TM specified AC Delco 13G's, Wellman's G070's, the self regulating AC Delco 60G's (I think made by Beru in Germany) and the little discused but highly regarded by some specialist, Bosch Duraterm Premium, BS80034 (I am not sure of any fine print but with 3-4 years Warranty??)
What do you think?

No, there is no order to which the glow plugs are connected. Just be sure that all of your plugs get reconnected. As far as installing a battery disconnect, electrically it does not matter which side you install it. Installing it on the grounded side of your system is just the normal convention this way the battery ground is isolated from the entire grounding system.

Make sure you are getting fuel too as cold may cause some fuel connections to draw air causing no start issue. This happened to mine when the weather changed. I tightened up all my hose clamps checked my filter and she has started like a dream ever since even under 20deg.
