Been a while - got a new truck - finally she got new shoes

I had slowly walked away from the MV hobby a year or so ago. Then a buddy sucked me back in by selling me his 1970 Kaiser Jeep Deuce.

It has taken a while to find, purchase and then have mounted to my Deuce my new wheels and tires.

The tires were Michelin 11R22.5 XDY2's and the wheels came from Wheels Now -

Still need the spare and two more for my MKT, but the wheels are in now, just have to wait for the supplier to come up with new virgin Michelin cases in the correct size for these last three retreads to be made.



It's the only picture I've got right now. The truck is in Denver and I'm stuck in Texas for the time being. So I have a friend of mine doing the work and another friend allowing me to store it near his deuce. Thanks Randy and Johnathan.

Three more things to do, install a muffler, replace the radiator with the new one I got with the truck and finally get the winch hooked to the PTO with the parts I got with the truck.

I also have a remote control spotlight to install but that is later.

And I will be installing sound deadening material, covered with rubber floor mats in the cab, and along with the muffler I hope to make the ride quieter.

Funny thing is, I'm happy with this truck. My buddy Randy drove it and said it steered with one hand, due to the upgraded wheels and tires.

Welcome back, it HAS been a bit since i've seen anything from you! Looks good, but in order for me to get another it needs power steering, front flats scare me.

I haven't installed a muffler yet but I've got mine down to db's in the low 80's at highway speeds. What I did was sound deadener in hard top/back, on firewall, bottom side of cowl, and bottom of trans tunnel, I used noico brand black from amazon, and still plan to do back side of cab. Hardtop also has 1/2" foam and grey trunk liner material. For floor mats I got black diamond plate rubber 1/8" from amazon and backed it with adhesive backed insulation from a milsurp truck cab insulation kit , I acquired several of these kits from fuzzytoaster who actually lives in your area now. Iirc the insulated floor mats took the floorboard temps from the 130's to the 80's with the ac running. It can be done, doesn't cost a lot, but is a bit of work, just thought I'd let you know what I did and how it worked, welcome back sir!!

Yeah I will be using FATMAT Rattletrap - costs less than $2 a sq ft and is 80 mil thick - I've used FATMAT products in other vehicles and have been very pleased and this was before they came out with Rattletrap thickness. Previously their regular FATMAT was only 40 mil thick so I used two layers.

VERY HAPPY with all the results of using their products. Both for sound insulation and heat/cold insulation.

I have used it under the hood as well as inside the vehicle, including doors and one rear lift gate on the back of my 07 Dodge Magnum. Can't go wrong with insulation from noise and heat/cold...

I've even used a sheet of the FATMAT in a dishwasher in our last house when I swapped the front from a white front to a black front to match the rest of the appliances - and while I had it apart I added a 2' x 2' piece and all of a sudden you could no longer hear the dishwasher running - AT ALL.

So yeah, LOADS of uses.

When I get to that point, I will take pictures of it installed.

And you have AC in yours? Do you have a link showing it's install or a pic?

THX. I'll be around for a while. Right now, we are still in Texas - San Angelo but we are trying to get back to Colorado (long story).

Eventually we may have a house in both states, but for now, we are trying to get back to Colorado.

I didn't do a build thread on the a/c but I prob should have. I used a 2 groove, 24v sanden sd7 milsurp compressor from fuzzytoaster, brackets are 50% vintage air that I robbed from my 71 Cheyenne and 50% fabbed. V.A. parallel flow condenser , this type works extremely well with 134 and needs to be as big as possible (I'll get the size for you). V.A. drier, fittings and hose that I cut/fitted and my Napa store crimped. I used V.A.'s individual bulkhead fittings for all 4 lines going thru firewall. Also V.A.'s gen IV magnum evap/heater unit tucked partially up under the dash (had to modify glovebox but didn't lose much) and slightly modified their mounting bracket. I bought their plain jane 3 knob controls, a pod that houses the knobs and 2 louvers, mounted the other 2 in the dash at the far outside/bottom corners similar to my 71 Cheyenne. IIRC the whole system draws 16amps so you need 12 reducer that can handle that plus other accessories. To run the 24v compressor clutch I used the 12v signal wire from the ac unit to engage a standard 12v relay, this sends 24v to the clutch. The system works great, but insulation/sealing up holes is key. The only aspect that could be better is defroster, the vents that are built into the truck are so large the V.A. System doesn't move a lot of air thru it, still works well just not fast. Any questions just email or pm, I'll get some pics up for you. I put a few up somewhere but cannot remember where.
