Hello everyone, I am somewhat new here and I haven't found a post that really answers my question. I am looking at potentially purchasing one of two bobbed m35a2's with multi fuel engines for sale near me and was wondering I was wondering if they can legally pull a 14k trailer in nys (10500 cargo, 3500 trailer weight) and what I could expect for road speed with that weight? I have never owned a vehicle like that and have no experience of my own to draw uppon, i have read plenty on these over the years and typically just see "they go slow" and I have seen people say they tow 20k-30k lbs of cargo alone on a truck that still has dual rear axles.

No, it's not legal. Max towed vehicle weight rating on the pintle on highway is ten thousand pounds, with all three axles. Can they haul more? Absolutely, but according to the data tag, five tons is it.Thank you for your reply Biscuitwhistler37. Since that specified the tow weight is for the pintle does that mean if I have a class 3 hitch installed that it could tow 14k or is that still illegal due to there being no combined vehicle weight rating on the tag for a standard ball?

Correct, your weight rating would drop to 0 because they don't have a weight rating for a class 3 hitch on the truck itself, just the hitch. I have either a class 4 or 5 installed and technically am not allowed to use it on road, even though the hitch is rated to 10 tons. Off highway, pulls like a dream.
Your best bet for legal weight rating increase for the m35 is remove the box and add a fifth wheel tractor hitch and data plate, if memory serves they're rated for thirty thousand pounds on fifth wheel.

Well that throws a monkey wrench into things, unfortunately though I would like to get a deckover trailer so i don't have to keep flipping the wheels on my tractor I don't have the cash to purchase a new trailer along with the truck. It's really unfortunate given those are in very good condition. Thanks again for the information, it was extremely helpful.
