For the op, try and get a ride in a bobber and try and get in a 6x6 and decide what is better for you. That is the best way to figure out what works best for you. The only other thing is your imagination and your wallet....

Steve6x6x6 has on e of the most capable (not mention the nicest) bobber you will ever see. As you can see from the pictures he is not scared to push it. What he failed to report was that we also had a 5-ton dump stuck in the same area. Both eventually made it through. To answer the original question, they are capable, but the driver and ability is just as big a factor. Best suggestion was to find a ride in each and then decide.

I just watched a youtube video of a bobbed deuce trying to climb a hill and not making it. Both rears but only one front wheel was pulling. I seem to recall from my army days they had an airlock front end. Does that not lock both front wheels?

My truck has yet to get stuck and I've gone through the roughest trails I can find. Here in the Midwest though mud holes don't get as big and usually you have to watch the tree branches more then the mud holes. Had to do a couple of 9 point turns on some tight trails. I have lockers front and rear and I can say even the crew cab is light on the rear axle. The truck start slipping on the softest ground till I switch to 4x4. Then its just low 2nd and throttle play as I plow through mother nature. I like being singled out because I run 14.00s and the tires dig into ruts better then if I ran duals.

I got my bobber stuck once... I needed a d8 cat to pull me out, other trucks my size and larger weren't budging me at all. I have 49" Michelin Xl's custom cut by staz works. I dont have lockers yet, but plan those once I get my rear steer axle installed. Also I dont know if I would have gotten stuck if I would have had some weight in the back end I dont have a box yet. Looking for a 105 trailer box if anyone is selling? Climbing I havent had any problems except when I tried to climb a pile of gravel in a gravel pit I would get as far as my momentum could take me then I'd start to spin which is ok I really didnt wanna go over the top haha.10296353_573862968487_6085652178023182825_o.jpg

In response to your Q about Liftgates, I installed a 3500 lb. "fold under" type. It does work GREAT for my needs HOWEVER you would LOOSE your towing hardware... (I never tow anything) but load things all the time with a bad back.. heh.
you would also loose some departure angle when off roading.
