Duratherm, spelling matters when searching.

I know how Bosch spells it(but look at how they spell their own name!)

I just meant to search it as I spelled it also(because we have discussed them here on SS some).

Has anyone used the BOSCH Duraterm Glow Plugs I know Dog Head likes the 60g's
I ask cause I am in need of some new gp's mine are shot!
I've use the Bosch Duraterm 80034 in my 6.2/6.5's for years without a problem. They are self limiting like the AC60g's but heat up faster and hotter than the 60g's. Bill Heath form Heath Diesel did a comparison test between the 2 plugs and the Duraterms lasted for days on constant power, but the AC60g's started to fail at around 6 hours, if my memory serves me correctly. I'll try to dig up the write up he did and post it. I think it was at the Diesel Place I saw it.

I am going to bypass my glow plug module its not working right and I beleve its due to the wires being broken on the sensor. found it today going to see if I can find and new plug and cut the wires back to fix it but most likely going to bypass

thanks tamecrow for the info I will be going with the bosch for my gp system!

Is this use on M1008 and or M1009 trucks? With stock wiring? And stock controller?

What do they cost?

6 hours or 3 days, interesting.

It's on my M1008 with stock wiring except the firewall resistor is removed and the relay is now powered with 12 volts from the front battery. Still has the stock controller with added push button for backup. I get the Duraterms for around $10.00 a plug.
I think the test that Heath did actually lasted like 40 hours, and none of the Duraterms were burnt out when the test was concluded. There was a thread on the Diesel Place regarding the test and I emailed Bill Heath and he confirmed the results.

In all the time you have been using them, have you had any of them fail?

How old are the oldest ones you have still in service?

It sounds like your results have been very good.

The ones in my M1008 daily driver are 1.5 years old and no problems. I have a set in a civy '91 K2500 that is driven every day that have been there for 4 years and all 8 are still glowing like the day they were installed.

I think the big thing nowadays, with any glow plug, is to make sure you're not getting a counterfeit part. This counterfeiting is getting out of hand. A friend of mine bought a set of glow plugs for his Powerstroke last year from Ford and they failed within weeks. Turned out they were counterfeit Chinese parts that found there way into the Ford system. Anyhow if you buy the Duraterms get the free tool to verify that they're genuine.

I have been using the Wellmans in my M1008 and they have been in there for over 6 years with no issues. They dont heat up as fast as the civy units but they are dual coil and dont swell They are the 070s that the truck calls for and so far they are the only company I have found that makes them. The autolite 13g plugs are reboxed wellmans if you can find them.

I have had a set of 60G's in my M-1009 since '07 or '08, on a manual switch. I freely admit i abuse them, 30sec or more of "on" time on a cold start. They were all removed in Oct 2010 and tested OK. I also use the Bosch 80034's in my 2002 Savana van with a 6.5 turbo. The automatic circuit doesn't seem to cycle long enough for the 60G's, and there are impatient other drivers of this vehicle. The Bosch's have been in since '08 i think, no issues, and i haven't had to resort to the block heater or a jump start since the install. This van sometimes sits for weeks in the winter between uses. The Bosch plugs come in a 10-pack. Why? I don't know.

The correct Wellman GP for a CUCV is the 050, not the 070. They are supposed to heat up faster than AC60G GPs. 070 GPs are 24 volt. Use of them would only give you about half the heat of the correct GP. That would explain why yours are "slow".

Autolite and Wellman have NO bussiness connections.

Wellmans do swell. I have had many Wellmans swell and fail. Their Quality Control is lacking(exact words from their company owner, to me).

WOW! the companies catalog must be wrong then. There catalog says the 070 is for the cucv, All cucvs for that matter and the 050 is for civilian applications using the 6.2. Also the G070 is stamped right on them as 11.6v which is why the use of them after a resistor. All the CUCV glow systems are slow compared to civilian which was what I was pointing out. And you should go to the parts store and get an autolite 13 glow plug because wellmans are in the box along with a few I got from ford a month or so ago. Wellman and autolite may not be in business together but they are definitely re boxing them. Also not the civilian Hummer uses the 050 as per catalog listing below.

Also here is the part number from the 34p TM 5613939 which crosses directly from the GM number to the 13G which crosses to the 070. Found it on Google since it has been awhile since I needed to look up the number.

Now maybe if you are converting or something, others will work but the correct OEM part is the 13g or 070

Doghead I would love to know who you talked to at wellman that said "Wellmans do swell. I have had many Wellmans swell and fail. Their Quality Control is lacking(exact words from their company owner, to me)" I am on the phone with them weekly placing orders and looking for plugs for the equipment I work on, and would love to pass this info on to them so they are aware of someone in there company badmouthing them.

I personally have only had one fail and it was due to me dropping it on the floor and it cracked, never really tried the bosch part but the OEM number from the TM does not cross to anything they make.

Chuck Gilles. I had about 12 of them fail/swell. HE said they were having QC issues and sent me free replacements.

I would not call telling me they had a problem, "bad mouthing".

My personal experiance with Wellmans, leads me to aviod using them. Simple as that. The fact that they are not instock anywhere"locally" is another reason.

Many others here on SS have had them swell as well.

Yep I know Chuck. Hes not the owner of wellman though, he is not even employed by them. He is a private dealer for them called "IND USA". He sells allot of the GPs on eBay. He is a nice guy, dont know why he would have said that though? Wellman has a great warranty and they will return any gp if it fails. BUTT! Also need to remember with the CUCV if one GP fails the voltage rises in the others which is why when the CUCV gp system goes, it all goes at once.
