Just curious what people use to lift their 5 ton truck.

Also, if anyone knows where I can get an adapter that prevents sliding at the end of the piston.

Thanks!

Most of the guys I know use the Harbor freight 12 ton jack or they have a 20T also and with a 20 or 25% off coupon it's a deal. The first time you do brake maintenance makes it well worth it, a lot of their stuff I wouldn't touch, but have not heard of anybody having a problem with these.

Right. I have the 12 ton, but what I am looking for is a cap for the top of the piston that looks like a piece of angle iron and prevents slipping off the frame or axle.

If you look in the military manuals, it specifically recommends an adapter.

Ferro didn't have much luck with Habor junk jacks.

The HET comes with a pin on top of jack fixture just for the reasons above, I will take some pictures and post later. I sometimes use them, sometimes not, it depends if I think the jack will walk or not, if there is a chance of the vehicle moving besides up, ect..

Jack What Makes A Good One

Hi

This one intrques but I wonder about the bending forces with the jack piston off set to the side. Like the flat plate under it though particularly if you are going to use it on soft ground.

Right now I have some 12x12x2 plywood squares in the trucks to use with bottle jacks for tire changing. Every time I buy a new jack it seems that the next truck that will weigh more.

For years I had used 8X8x24 cribbing blocks to support trucks while working under them. The idea of having 10,000Lbs fall just doesn't appeal to me. Recently had all the blocks tied up under a long term project in the shop and needed to do a brake job on my CMP 3 ton so I when looking for jack stands that would carry the weight. This time I got smart and measured how tall I needed to lift the truck to have the wheels off the floor and what was the minimum to have the stands fit under the axles with out lift the truck too far. In the end timed it just right and bought 4 NAPA stands rated for 7 tons each.

Thanks for bringing the topic up.

Cheers Phil
