I have a 1955 M54-A2 . I had to replace a defective brake line. what type of brake fluid is okay to use in this system. The TM mentions not to use petroleum based brake fluid. Thats all it mentions. Some insight would be great. Thanks.

Use either one. Dot 3 worked fine for 40 years. Of course you can use the smell and taste test to find out what you have in there and then add that type if you are not purging the system. Look for yellow labels which indicate that Dot 5 has been used.
