The only thing I have found on changing a DOT 3 system over to a DOT 5 is that you have to completely flush your brake system with a non residue brake flushing compound. Supposedly most brake systems are compatible with DOT 5, I have heard some folks who have had troubles after trying to change over to 5 however, perhaps they didn't flush the system well enough or not at all. Or the cups and other rubber parts weren't compatible with silicone. Even though DOT 5 is not hygroscopic, it doesn't mean that moisture will not collect in the low lying areas of the brake system and will therefore still corrode the brake lines etc..
