I switched to regular non-led bulbs and they are very bright.

I've recommended the switch to LEDs for a couple of years now and always tell folks to use 10-30v LEDs. This simplifies things if you need to pull your trailer with either a military or a civy vehicle. You don't have to go back in and change lamps between the two trucks. When searching for the LEDs search these terms: LED, 10-30v, BA15s. The BA15S is a single contact 15mm base bulb that fits into the brake light socket. If your thinking of replacing the bulbs in your car you'll want to search under BA15D for dual contact bulbs. Dash lights are BA9S.
