I can't weigh in on the usage/diving portion of this thread yet (ask me in six months...) as I just got my '70 AMG M816 home Saturday and it needs a little TLC (hole in the hydraulic tank and a sticking pair of brake shoes...).
But: I have a bunch of stuff in the yard that needs to be picked up and loaded often and I have seen multiple varients (gasser, multifuel, Mack, and Cummins) of five ton wreckers in use (in my yard, on the farm, friend's places, and at rallies) and can say that I am really happy to finally have the crane in my posession.
For hauling dead vehicles, I really like using my XM813 and the towbar...

I would not trade mine for love or money. It is like my right hand when I need a extra lift.
Other then that the use for prophet for get it. It still looks cool on the road.
