How hard is it to find some truck fabrication specialist in the Fruit and Nut State that can add a tag axle to that overpriced boondoggle.

This is why government (all all levels) is going broke.

Since they are spending the taxpayers money so it is OK to throw it down a rathole.

I'm thinking they built this right down the road from me at the International plant here in Springfield. All kinds of unusual things come out of there from time to time. What's the issue with Cali regarding single axles? Are they afraid of road damage?

Since when did Emergency vehicles have to start playing by the same weight laws everyone else does? Just look at the exorbitant weight some fire apparatus have they are no where near being legal especially some of the large tandem axle ladder/pump trucks.

I don't get this at all. There are numerous equipment law exceptions for emergency vehicles of all types in most states. I mean, is it really unsafe or yet another thing that Kommiefornia has deamed "thou shalt not have". Is there any more screwed up state in the nation?!

Hmmm, I bet if it was a fire truck no one would bat an eye at the cost. I'm seeing a kind of sad pattern of LEO bashing here that I'm kind of surprised at. Many of the cops I know are vets. Even if they aren't, most love MV's and have the highest respect for those that serve. The "Barney Fife" threads are getting a bit old. LEO's take a pretty similar oath as our soldiers to defend the constitution, etc. but do it on a local level. Sorry, rant off, had a long day.

This article Too heavy to legally drive on state roads indicates that the San Joaquin County police department has three drivers with class "A " drivers licenses. They also indicate that since the truck only has seating for two, that a chase car will be following the vehicle to Ohio.

What's with the land of fruits and nuts needing a class A license? Guess they never looked at the DOT regulations. I also wonder about log books for this trip.

The vehicle has 22,060 lbs on the rear axle exceeding the 20,000 lb limit.

The vehicle appears to be either a Pete of possibly a Freightliner with the badges on the hood.

These are the folks that built the command center. I guess they might want to remove the recent delivery for this one from their website.

It's business as usual in California. The place used to be a nice place to live......in the 80's and 90's. The whole thing is absurd, just an indicator of the stupidity in government there. Just how many thousands of pounds of equiptment was added?, certainly the interior was striped and law enforcement equiptment added....no? It has bedrooms and showers along with laundry facilities? This one just went south....bad call.

It's a Pete 385. That POS, or another just like it, has been to my shop. When they dropped it off, all of them were real proud of it. It is an under powered, top heavy TURD!

They could have saved big bucks buy getting some 5ton expando van's and refurbishing them from the ground up. They would be a hell of a lot more mobile and tactical in a realworld emergency when an if the roads were messed up. It's easy to spend too much when your not dealing with you're own money.
