CARC Sub over faded CARC

For those wondering about using Rapco CARC Sub over faded CARC I did it over the weekend with great results. Only real prep I did was a good cleaning. I did not want to sand on the CARC and at this point don't see the need if your surface is nice but just faded. I just freehand it and followed the existing lines. Took 6 cans of green, 3 can of brown and three cans of black with paint left over. This included the interior touch up as well. I did not paint 100% of all surfaces but probably 80%.

Nice work! I love that camo pattern. My Deuce is faded OD green. I've thought about changing it to camo, but I have no idea of how to create a pattern. I've seen some really bad "shade tree" camo jobs and I don't want that on my truck. Glad to hear another good review of Rapco.

I, too, have used RAPCO spray cans and it worked great. I once repainted an entire M35A2 and also an M105A2. I ended up having the M35A2 re-CARCed, but the trailer looked great seven years later.

I have to vote YES for RAPCO paints as well. My M936 has consumed two cases of "Rattlecan" paint over the past few years. Most of mine has been repairing rust patches on the bed of the truck. A little chipping, some grinding to get down to bare metal, then primer and paint. All with a mask of course...

Thanks for the TB. Am I blind though, is there something that indicates what the colors are 1, 2, 3, etc for the various camo colors? I.e. woods vs desert vs ....

number that stands for the color to be painted. There are
five views of the vehicle; front, back, left side, top, and
right side. Most designs will show these five views. The
base, or "primary" color is Color #2 and is usually applied
first over all surfaces. Color patches #1 and #3 a then
applied over the primary coating. The approximate
distribution, in percent, of the three colors is: green--44
percent, black--41 percent, and brown--15 percent.

1 = Black
2 = Green
3 = Brown

I have proof of that from Figure 31. WHY that isn't on every page is beyond my pay grade I suppose.

Tomorrow is why we have big green trucks... Library just across the big road is hosting a Touch A Truck event. Got a police station for a neighbor and some oak trees to park under. Temperature tomorrow is 101, so I don't know what kind of turnout there will be. I am definitely looking forward to it!! Gonna take three trucks since it is so close. M1088, M1089 and a Mk23. I should be out sprucing them up, but it is still about 85 and really humid with incredibly still air.



Trying not to hog all the space, so it may only be two trucks...

Matt, it might be possible to project the outlines of the truck from the TM onto your truck with an old school "overhead projector" so you could draw out the lines with chalk. It would make the shapes a lot easier than free-handing them.

I was talking to a buddy about that earlier today. I have an "old" (mid 2000s) overhead projector and some transparency sheets for my laser printer. Was doing to try to print the HMMWV patterns and try to at some point. My only concern is it'd need to be reasonably "not light" outside to be able to see the projection on the HMMWV.

I have done it in the past. Seems like at dusk was the plan back then. I may have "reversed" the file (black becomes white) so it is easier to see when projected.
