castle nut torque on m1101?

I'm having no luck finding the torque spec for the castle nut to hold the wheel assembly on. Anyone know it? I tried to email silver eagle and it said I didnt have permission to email them. I forgot to ask mother may I. :/

Kind of a tighten, spin a few times and back off a quarter turn, type deal, before replacing the cotter pin, or at least that is what I do.

By no means a master mechanic, just what I do since burning out bearings on my car when I was young for having them too tight.

Thanks Mike that sounds pretty good to me. Since I had my brakes lock up on the trailer I decided to look at the brake set up since I never have since having the trailer. There are no specs on the book either that I can find.

Make sure that the spindle nut (3) turns

freely on the spindle (14) and the brakes

are not dragging

4. While turning the hub/drum slowly,

tighten the spindle nut (3) to seat bearings.

5. Back off the spindle nut as required to

align the cotter pin hole.

6 Install a cotter pin (2) and bend ends to

secure the spindle nut (3).

I did read that part but I assumed a torque setting would be listed. I suppose it's just not as important as it is on a vehicle?

Was your break-away lever up a notch when it happened. When I picked mine up didn't notice it and it took about 30 miles of highway driving till it locked them up!

The TM for the 101A1 says to tighten until it begins to bind. I take bind to be if the wheel spins 5 times while loose, it will spin 4 times after you tighten it. Then back off according to the TM. Don't do what the last person did on one side of my 101. I think their last name was Hercules, since the supports between the rollers were buckled. I think they took bind as the wheel shouldn't turn at all. After you have backed off, the wheel should be back to spinning 5 times. This seems to be one area where feel and experience matter more than 'by the numbers'.

Break away lever was in the right spot. In fact I've pulled the trailer many times prior and loaded with dirt and worked fine. Seems to have this issue when empty only.
