Every one of them that I have worked on the last 18+ years that have been in vehicles have been too weak. They work alright turning generators and hydraulic pumps such as tracked excavators. Around my shop we are down to only one of these engines moving a truck. The guys call it a 32 and wait (320
since it has a hard time moving a tandem axle dump truck and even harder time if you put a load in it and hook up a trailer with a skidloader on it. Put a manual transmission behind it and you need alot of gears to get anything out of it , throw an automatic behind it and things really get slow. I have had to repair quite a few of these engines just to keep them going :turbos ,bellhousings ,and injection pumps loosening up causing leaks and other damage ,bad head gaskets, cracked heads, bad primer pumps causing no starts, etc. Yes, I also consider them a throw away engine.
