I know it's an old thread, but for the sake of anyone doing research:No, not if he's running the original 24v. If it has been converted to 12v then you could but why. Better to tie into the fuse block and use keyed power (power that is only on when the key is in accessories or run mode) This will prevent battery drain when you forget to turn the CB off. IMO never good to go direct to batteries.
- CUCVs are 12v vehicles, with a 24v starting system. There is no problem with using standard 12v automotive accessories. Radios, stereos, GPS, bulbs, headlights, whatever. It's all 12v except the starting system and part of the glow plug system.
- Bad idea to tie to the fuse block. It's 30 years old and some of the circuits were designed poorly, and are overloaded already.
- Best idea (for these, or any other vehicle), is to run fused power (from the front battery) to an aftermarket fuse block inside the vehicle, and use a relay to provide switched (key operated) power. The relay can be switched by a circuit on the fuse block.
- As mentioned, running off the rear battery can be done, but it's one of those, "If you have to ask how, just don't do it." kind of things. Best left to those who know what they are doing with electricity, and most of us probably wouldn't do it. There's just no real benefit and the downside is pretty big.
