I've got a closed cab CCKW that I need to get a title for. Can anyone tell me where to start looking for a VIN #?

The only thing I've seen so far is a small tag on the driver's side firewall above the voltage regulator. It's difficult to read with all the paint. There are data tags on the glove box, but I can't see anyting on them yet.

Is the frame stamped somewhere?...I seem to remember hearing about the body being stamped inside in front of the trans gear shift but I dont' see anything there.

If I can find a number then I can see what kind of red tape the county office can come up with. I think I asked a few years ago and remember something about having to put up a bond for the sale price and waiting about 3 years to get the title.....hope not.

Found this no. on the driver's side frame rail just behind the front spring mount. Is that it?....seems strange that it isn't anything like the one bradcckw posted.

I didn't see anything on the outside of the frame on the passenger side, but I'll look again.

That looks like the motor number that someone stamped into the frame. It is not the factory stamping.

You might look under the dash over the hump for the transmission, there should be a data plate there that has everything on it including the manufacturer. I know mine is a CCW, not a CCKW, but when cleaning out all the farm trash and mouse turds, I found it under there and also learned my truck was a CCW 5 ton, not a CCKW as the previous owner thought. And Frank VonRosenstel in Canada has replacement plates for them also. I'd sent him my original for him to make a copy of, I've now got his replacement in my truck with the original for display with the pictures and history of the truck.

Found it!

Found the s/n under lots of paint on passenger side frame rail, between the front spring mount and the shock absorber. Anyone know what year it was made from the number? I'm guessing '43 or earlier since it's a closed cab.

I looked around the floor pan for a data plate, but no sign of one....I know I found a plate there on one of the two other parts trucks I have....think it was a '43

Pulled the engine (stuck) & trans and got the engine torn down. Not stuck too bad, but #4 cyl is pretty pitted so I'll have to sleeve that one. Not much ring stop so I may be able to just re-ring it. Crank may need a regrind...not that it's scored or anything, but the last guy to grind it didn't do a real good job. The journals have a slight mismatch (around .0005) ground in the middle.
The key on the front of the crank has run loose and wallowed out the keyway for the pully. (they tack welded the pully on) I'll cut a new key slot to tighten that up.
Overall it looks to be a fairly easy rebuild....just have to start rounding up parts.
