That's good advice. I used an anti-sieze compound on the thermo couples.
If you use brass plugs for the holes, they should be fine without.

Speaking of deuces in the desert, I am not at my home PC but I am always collecting current pics of A2 and similar M35's from the 2 active theaters.

Late-model M35A3 pics are ok, but I am trying to form up a composite "sketch" of how older style deuces, which you still occasionally see in use, are kitted out & unit marked.
I thought I had some pics like what you are interested in, but sadly, this is all I found, from OIF.

More pics like this at: http://www.primeportal.net/busted/teasley/deuce.htm

Photos above courtesy of: http://www.primeportal.net/home.htm and http://www.primeportal.net/iraq_index.htm and http://www.primeportal.net/iraqi_images_from_the_200th.htm

Enjoy!

Clinto, those were intense. I think I am now more certain than ever I will build this deuce back into a desert tan beast, with or without super singles....

When I am back at the home PC I'll get those armored tactical truck pics uploaded. I got those pictures when I was in Germany this summer....really cool stuff. The 915's and 916's rock. True gunships....

Couple of questions. Do the "C" turbos whistle at idle or only when cranked up under load. I kind of like the sound of a turbo whining at idle and then really screaming when you wind it up. Does the "D" turbo provide any more power than the "C" turbo. I drove M35s new in the very early 70s in the MA ARNG but never noticed a turbo whine. Any guesses as to whether they were N/A or "D": turbos.

Also, when I finally get my Deuce (don't own one yet, but will have one within 6 months, I want to add an exhaust attenuator of some sort. I've checked out the following links

http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...goryId=13783&parentCategoryId=10265&langId=-1
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stor...atalogId=10002&storeId=10001&categoryId=19855

These are attenuators (not mufflers, designed for race car header systems) which fit inside your stack pipe which suposedly provide sound reduction without "significant backpressure". Wonder if anyone has tried them and how well they worked?

Sorry, I didn't hear what you said, please repeat all since last message (thats a joke, for all you ex commo types!

Wonder how much a muffler reduces the efficiency of the turbo?
I run a turbo/muffler on my M185A3. on my last trip, fully loaded, I got 9mpg and was able to keep up with Armada's M35 w/C turbo(he was pulling a trailer but not carrying as much weght as me)
On the way back I was towing a M1009 and got 8mpg and lost power going up hill, but had no problem on the flats. The loss of power from the muffler may be there but the loss of the noise pays off after the first hour in an 11 hour drive.
what size tires did you have? have you put 1100's on it before? what was the result?
