Cheap Electric Wipers

I'm 1/2 way through my electric wiper upgrade. I bought a 12 volt set off of eBay and got them modded to work. They need paint and the wiring to be complete. We pulled the air wipers motors with their hoses and removed the dash switch and tucked it up under the dash. Once we pulled it from the dash I put the knob back on and made sure the air was off. Then I zip tied it out of the way. No reason to remove all of that and then plug it.

The wiper blades that come in the kit are garbage and they were quickly tossed. We modded the civy wiper blades that I was already using to work.

Removing the civy wiper setup was a PITA! I used a few drops of red lock tight on the nut when I put it together last year - it wasn't falling off anytime soon.

The new motors mount in the same spot as the air motor and even use one of the old mount holes. The other will need to be plugged.

Modding the shaft was quick and easy. I modded the arm to work with the other wiper blades and it looks to be perfect.

These have a 110 degree sweep and a park position. Next I will wire everything up and then get it all painted TAN. More pics when complete.

Perhaps a link, or more information as to how to source this kit and mods that need to be done to make them work?
I can't post a link to an auction, but if you look around eBay using the search terms - universal wipers, hot rod wipers, street rod wipers, you'll find them. The best deal on two is a company out of Hudson, IA. Make SURE you order the right kit. One has everything, one has just two motors. Also check to see if you're buying 12 or 6 volt. I heard that OD Iron has the 24 volt version.

Instructions to mod the shaft come in the kit. I measured off how much to cut (3 inches) and then removed the four screws holding the shaft plate in. The I took the inner and outer shafts apart and carefully cut three inches off of each. Then reassemble. Takes about three minutes each if you have a new fine tooth hacksaw blade.

You can get M37 wiper motors on amazon that are 24v. Similar design with "on/off" switch on motor housing. I've had 'em for a couple of years and honestly don't miss the air wipers at all. LOL I got mine for less than forty dollars complete. Might be more now though. Good looking truck!
God bless!

I just saw those. They might actually be a couple dollars cheaper than what I paid. Good tip - thanks.

Wow, cool! These look like they will work perfect in my Unimog, they even LOOK the same. I've been trying to figure out a 12v wiper setup for it for a while now, thanks for bringing it to my attention. :)

The truck on the patch is the wrong color...

What holds the wiper arm on, after you cut the shaft to length?

Did you not use the rubber boot for the shaft seal?

Are they one or two speed wiper motors?

I like what I see.

The arm is held on by a bolt. The shaft seal isn't on yet because everything is mocked up. They are single speed unless you use a resistor switch.

Didn't I mention I bought a cheap windshield washer kit? That's going in today too.

The things you can do with 12 volts!

Both motors painted, mounted and wired up. We got one arm on and working. The other needs to be modded. 110 degree sweep with it "stowing" out of the way doesn't leave much else. It's probably just enough.

We will finish up in he morning and install the windshield washer kit. Then wire up the heater and go buy the hoses, fittings etc for it. Hope to have that done before the convoy lights get here and I'm still waiting for new door hinge pins.
