City or in town dwelers help convince non-believers

Hello, i'v always wanted a deuce since I saw a m49a2 out back of the city building when I was about 8. Well now I'm 19 and I have a chance to get a m35a2, but I still live with my parents. Needless to say they really don't like the idea, dad said "if only we had more room" so I could probly get him on my side and he might drag my mom along haha. So here's my problem I live in a town of about 1200 people and we have a two car garage and already have 5 cars, 4 are always in our garage/driveway(first and formost I'm am a mustang nut) and atleast at first we need to keep all 5. So I need someplace to put the deuce. The yard is out, so where else do you guys put these monstrosities of a truck when living in town? Also being 19 and living in town I honestly don't have a need for one (but I'm sure you guys know how that goes) so what do YOU do with them(I'm still trying to get my parents on board here). anybody make money somehow with thiers?

Hi. I am going to keep my Deuce at a storage place that offers RV storage. If you have a place like self storage call them and see if the offer a place to park your truck. I've seen spots range from $30 to $80. I you intend to fix it up and keep it fairly original, casually mention that you are going to restore it. You might get a price break.

If that doesn't work, do you have any responsible friends who live outside of town? I say responsible because a deuce can do alot of damage in the hands of an idiot and most of us know a few.

Search through the threads here and learn all you can before you buy one. They take more attention than a car to be sure they are in safe working order. Not many people know how to work on them even though they aren't that hard to work with. It would be a case of you rolling up your sleeves and doing most of the work yourself. Or showing someone how.

If you can find a place to keep it and convince your folks that it won't cause any issues, it could be a fun project for you and your dad.

I would agree with the bonding thing with your dad. I also think if you figure out how to keep it, and it is not parked in the yard which is obviously out in your parent's minds, you will demonstrate an increased level of maturity and responsibility that I am sure your parents will find refreshing.

I would also use the angle that it is an investment and if properly cared for will appreciate with the years. Having had the 3rd Gen Camaro bug for a while, I found out that unfinished cars are not worth much. Your deuce will be fairly complete to start with and will need some work of course, but it is complete, intact, and whole. That is an investment.

Now, if you get the green bug like some of the others here, known as OD FEVER, this is only the beginning. So far I have managed to keep mine in check, but I live one Deuce a day at a time.

Our Deuce resides in the back yard when not in regular use, or at the curb out front if used daily. If too inconvenient to shove it into the back, I can also park on the grass next to the paved concrete driveway out front if I want it off of the street.

Dianna LOVES the truck, so no complaints in our house.

Thanks for all your replys so far but I'm fighting a looseing battle so far, mostly because my dad is the kind of person that won't accept help from many people and every person I mention even if they have more than enough room and probly wouldn't mind keeping it on thier land as long as the truck was out of the way he says something like this "oh yeah he would really like that huge truck on his land".
Any more ideas?!

As far as storage for your future deuce, your gonna get one trust me, try to befriend a local trucking company. They love them and may let you store it there for free or cheap. The area will be secure and well lit. As far as the parents go just do the research to buy and insure and store the deuce yourself and buy it. You have to break your parents some time. They may throw you out of the house for a few days but when you take them and there friends for a ride they will forgive you and all will be well.

Until you get your own place, you need to follow your parents wishes, or find a storage place elsewhere.

Same here, I mean No offense, but that is exactly what my original question was "where do people with limited storage space put a deuce" or any other big item for that matter. People have offered some pretty good ideas that I'm going to try(before I get the truck) and others say I can't afford it. To me the word afford means two things #1. You have the money to buy or atleast put a down payment on the item #2. You have the means(either money or space or whatever) to keep the item. Now trust me i'v got #1 more than covered, and #2 is why I posted this question.

I am not questioning your bank account, but at your age, the first thing you should do is take a picture of one to your insurance agent and find out if you can get insurance that will actually cover you in an accident that you are willing to pay for.

Your agent may say "sure we'll just insure it as a pickup truck" because he wants the commission from your premiums, but have them send the picture and truck weight to the home office so they know exactly what they are insuring. Many companies do not consider 3-axle trucks as a pickup. I could have bought cheap insurance from several agents if I had not had them check with the home office, but it would do me no good if an accident occurs.

I feel from your Dad's statement that he would like it, but is smart enough not to admit it in front of your Mom. After all, he is a man and a gearhead.

Thanks for the info, I also have both my cars under my parents name using their insurance(one of which is a 500hp mustang) and I just pay my parents what I owe them. Without that I wouldn't be able to drive both, so the deuce would be under my parents insurance as well. Which shouldn't be too bad with my dad having a CDL and if I can get it under an RV type plan.
